From what I have heard of it.

It's quite good too.

If your in habit of using music to flesh out your campaigns.

If your haven''t already, then I suggest obtain the Slough Feg 'Traveller' compilation.

Their other stuff is worth getting. Partically stuff that sounds like it based on Slaine from 'their first self title album, 'Twilight of the Idols' and 'Down Among The Dead Men'.

Although I liked some of the songs, I di dnot think of Traveller when I was listening to it. I thought more of some kind of car chase kind of thing. Oh well.

You can get it on iTunes now as well if downloading music is your preference.
The albums not to my taste (I bought it anyway!) but its got a great cover.

Yeah this was picked up by someone over on CotI; I remember listening over and over to one song, and posted the lyrics (or rather, what I heard as the lyrics - they may not have been entirely accurate! ).

I was quite taken with 'Baltech's Lament'.

Slough Feg, themselves are sort of like cross between 'Blue Oyster Cult ' and 'Pink Floyd'.

I dunno, for some reason the song "Starlight" by Muse always made me think of Traveller. Or rather, the Traveller character type (as described in T20, my break-in Trav system).

For me, moody kinds of techno music stir up the more "in space no-one can hear you" flavors of Traveller in me.

Heh. I gotta admit, it was a bit too rough for me to think "Traveller". Perhaps some Vargr pirate scene or something.

I guess it's too easy for me to tie classical music to sci fi themes ever since I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Isn't that just so typical. That alot of people were prefer the classical sci/fi thems music to metal.

I would still listen to that type of music myself. But only if I was trying relax or bring myself down.

The sounds of metal, I would use to psych myself up.

Get the adrenallin flowing.

I do not remember saying I prefered Classical to Metal? I do remember saying this particular band did not envoke the images in my mind of Traveller. I like this band and would use it while we play some of my combat heavy games. TW2K for example or D&D.

There are a lot of different types of music other then Metal or Classical and for me, Traveller is neither. Traveller is more Trance or Techno to me. Traveller calls for more exotic music at times. So there are times I play various world music discs I have. Traveller does invoke some high tempo music like I have on some of my sound tracks like the Ghost in the shell game soundtrack for example.

Music for a Traveller game, IMO, should follow the feel you want in that particular moment.

Quite the opposite. It seems that far more people prefer metal or hard rock with gaming than anything else. So "Isn't that just so typical" might better describe yourself, perhaps?

Same here, heck I have even used country, new age, rap, soundtracks, pop, rock, hard rock, classic, folk, environmental, pretty much every kind of music that I can think of. Personally I like a variety of music. As long as if fits the mood. Other then the cover of the album the music is just a little too umm metal for me. There might be some instance that it would be apropriate but I cannot think of many. Then again even when that was popular music when I was young I did not care too much for it. To me like porn music most all of it sounds the same, too much overriding beat.

Must be as I get older some of that hard stuff just irritates my hearing more and more. :D

Good tunes for Traveller....

Cowboy Bebop OST, all of 'em. (lots of variety here)
BSG OST. (good for low-life, grimy settings, and melancholy)
Halo OST. (great for alien-type stuff)
Mass Effect OST (perfect tunes - good for looping too, so each area or situation could have it's own tune)

I've been using the EVE-Online soundtrack (Freely downloadable from their site), Homeworld, Homeworld II, Gears of War, and the Halo Soundtracks to get in the mood before doing game-related Art.

Also, some Eureka 7 and Metal Gear Solid on occasion.

I have been using a variety of world music/world pop as background music.
Mix this liberally with modern classical music, Kronos Quartet, Glass, etc...

Though I have thought about making a sample disk with a variety of other sounds mixed with the ambient music. Low level buzz of fans, background radiation, clunks, clicks etc...

But that will have to wait, gotts too much on my plate already.

I have to second the EVE-Online soundtrack. There are nearly 30 tracks for free download.

Oh, Glass and Kronos... seconded too

Minimalist stuff is good. Oval, Labradford, Stars of the Lid mixed with sci-fi OST's.

Nothing is wrong as long as it fits the scene. I love big playlists with tracks you don't really notice until play gets dramatic and the music fits perfectly.

No thanks.

I use the EVE-Online soundtracks, reminds me of happy times playing Eve, and carries that feeling of open space and asteroid belts into my game ....
