Traveller Liftoff crowdfunding is here

I’ve gone for the E100 option, as I’ve heard good things about the Spinward Marches map pack add on at that level, and want extra stuff to go into the box - possibly including the Mongoose core rules too if they fit. How big will the box be?

It’s a campaign I really want to do well though. I just hope they make some slight changes in character generation (my personal bugbear).

Is anybody (at 13Mann or Mongoose, or elsewhere?) actively promoting or hyping this up at all? Is there a promotional/marketing push planned to raise awareness and drive site visits, likes, and pledges?

I ask as the only mention of this campaign I've seen anywhere is in this thread (which isn't even stickied) - nothing anywhere else on the many RPG related boards I visit - and without publicity and serious hype across at least (for example) COTI, RPGNet, Enworld, Paizo, TMP, UKRP, and others; and active discussion on Facebook and other sites I think there is little chance of raising 10K Euros - let alone the 100K required.

I hope there is demand for this product, and sufficient backing to make it happen. But people need to know about it in order to know they want to back it.

I have to agree. 100k is quite a lofty goal. Even with heavy marketing it will be hard to reach. And I have yet to see any marketing at all.

100K to get a tarter set printed? WAY too much being spent to get it out the door.

Games in boxes and full-color printing will do that.

My only nitpick is that there should be a lower point of entry to get the stuff. 40 euro just to get the pdfs seems a bit steep.

Yes. If it were ~ €20 I would have gone for it. In fact that is what they should have been pitching to the existing Trav community. LOTS of people would have forked over 20 to get the PDF

I just (a few months ago) took part in a Kickstarter for a full color PHB (think D&D size & quality) that cost FAR less than 100K to get done and printed. Smething is not correct about their process/costs

I have the feeling that there isn't much backing from the company and instead this is a pet project of some employees.

That would explain why the goal is so high, 13Mann doesn't want to pay for it, and why there is so little marketing support from them.

The smart way to do it would be to take the completed work and sell it as a PDF only right now. That will create word of mouth as its played and maybe create enough demand for a print edition...

First off, many in the USA find it difficult to use indigogo for crowd funding.

Second, 100,000 is just far too high a target after the T5 debacle.

The final pdfs will make money sold through drivethru, add a pod option to cater for the USA market.

It would be a great shame for this project to be stillborn.

Contributing in Euro rather than US$ means I pay conversion fees twice (once to charge my rechargeable international debit card with Dollars, one to convert to Euro). But I backed nonetheless at the Lieutenant level.

I hope that this will actually fund - the goal is VERY high.

It is not going to be funded.

One week in and 2% funded -- not going to happen.

I hope there is a plan B

I listed a plan B above, that shoulda been Plan A... Well, if combined with Sigtrygg's suggestion that is.

Does Mongoose actually have anything to do with this?

There appears to be a major lack of effort to push the crowd funding.

Not that I know of. They do appear to have had a malfunction on the launch pad. If nothing changes soon it will be of the magnitude of the Apollo 1 incident...

Because equating the lack of crowd funding success for an RPG with the deaths of three actual people is always classy...

And intentionally misunderstanding the thrust of a comment is SO intelligent.

Another boi in short pants correctly categorized.

Push it where?

Ya, that was a weird comment. Part of the problem that exists with some RPGers and their social skills.
