Traveller Core Rulebook: Updated version available on DTRPG

Gruffty the Hiver

Banded Mongoose
Well, there you go: Mongoose Publishing is following Spica Publishing's lead with a rapid update to the Traveller Core Rulebook on DriveThruRPG.com (well, rapid for Mongoose, anyway ;) )

I'ver just downloaded the updated version and am reading through it now.....

Hoorah!

The artwork is *MUCH* improved - less cartoon-y, a little more adult in places, generally better executed.

The new layout of the charcater generation pages looks very familiar, though...I'm sure I've seen something very, very similiar somewhere before, but - you know what? - for the life of me, I can't remember where...... ;)

Well done, chaps! Good job, top hole, pip-pip! What, eh? Tally ho!

Gah! 10/10 for effort, but minus several billion for style! That god-awful character sheet is in there, twice, no less!

Confound you, Mongoose Publishing, confound you, I say!

Smithers! My horse!

From what I can tell/see, there are no rules alterations from the previous edition. The bulk of the changes appear to be typo erradication/text formatting/page layout/new artwork (where *did* they get that picture of me on p. 44?!).

Does it add the Navigation skill description on Page 52? That skill is used throughout the TMB, Mercenary and High Guard character skill tables, but there is no description of the skill in the original TMB.

Q1: How did you find out about this? There doesn't seem to be any announcement about it.

Q2: Do you think that this updating will follow through in a new print run - and with prticular note towards the Pocket edition I have on pre-order?

I received the nod from someone who got an email from DTRPG saying that the file had been updated. Odd that I didn't get that email, as I clicked to say I want to be notified of updates.

That's not for me to say, as I'm not a Mongoosian (I'm a Spican ;)). However, as a customer of MP, I would ask the Traveller team to produce a deadtree of the latest version (assuming the latest version is 100% error corrected, that is ;)).

Are all the updates available in the downloadable eratta on the website for us dead tree version owners?

I've just checked the main MP site - there doesn't appear to be anything new in the way of updates, but the original errata file ("Players Guide") is still there.

Well that doesn't have the Navigation skill, that's the sort of thing we first printing purchasers could do with.

EDIT: actually my copy does have the nav skill, I just kept missing it

If it is very similar to yours. . . All I can say is that we settled on this layout a couple of months ago, and the guy working on it has never seen Careers :)

Given the scarcity of free space on the chargen pages, I'm not at all surprised that the new art in TMB has ended up where it has. Tis the dey-vil's own work trying to get art into the spaces around the chargen tables. But anyway I still think it looks good :)

And why not? ;)

"Hey, pass me your copy of Careers, yeah?"
"I bought Careers yesterday, dude!"
"Anyone spot the deliberate mistakes in Careers?"
"It says so, right there on p.28 of Careers, man!"
