It's not so much money I had in mind for the overruns - time is the big overrun. Of course, since he has to eat in the mean time, and pay rent and other living expenses, time does tend to indirectly eat into the profits.

So if he wasn't designing T5 he wouldn't have to pay rent or eat?

Obviously not. Solar powered Low Berths are so useful!

Well, without the overrun he might actually have sold some copies by
now, and earned money with T5 ... :D

I somehow get the feeling he is not in it for the money, but rather a Marc Miller definitive version of Traveller.

Quite true, but I suspect the money would still be welcome.

Completely agree.

It's his labor of love.....and he would like to see some profit at the end.

I just want to thank you all for being civil. Its nice to have a T5 thread without accusations of doubleplus badthought.. :)

Keep it up!

How dare you accuse me of being civil. :D

There you go again, just attacking someone because they are being abnormal. (snicker)

What will happen with MgT when Traveller 5 comes out?

Will it carry on?

Will it be anyway compatible?

Will the licence faid away?

MGT will be fine. It's a strong seller and a popular product, which is as good for Marc and Traveller in general as for Mongoose.

If anything, T5 will be a potential resource for MGT players to mine for equipment, weapons, armor, vehicles, robots, starships, rules, etc. There are some compatibilities, and T5's approach to tangibles seems to complement MGT nicely.

From my understanding it's only the author and his computer making PDFs with support of a small online community helping for free. He has sold a few "beta" copies on CD.

All but perhaps two pages of text were written by Marc. And he's sold a few hundred beta CDs (I want to say 500, plus or minus, but I'm not sure).

8)

From what I've heard, T5 was started LONG before Mongoose Traveller. At the time it was started, shortly after T4 concluded it was quite needed - yes, the situation has changed since this time period with the successful publication of Mongoose Traveller - and Marc decided to go ahead and publish T5 as a limited CD release only.

So - for those who want it - it's out there and that's better than being vaporware.

However, as we all know, Mongoose Traveller is THE current version of Traveller that is being published with lots of support and sales.

The art work in the books is OK. They didn't knock it out of the park nor fumble the ball either. I'd love a full color hardbound main book, like Gurps Traveller: Interstellar Wars, but the cost would be rather high.

:D

If I have enough money I would like to get the T5 core rules, but mostly for collectorness. Most of my money will go to getting minis or MGT, and maybe a few other things that catch my fancy (like Shadowrun).

Now there's a diehard fan! Who really needs food and shelter and such... ;)
