Traveller 0 Blues

Hi,
Failing that, a list of which rules that Book 0 "borrows" from the core rules would make life easier.

Ian

From memory

Character creation is gone through but they only list Army and Navy careers with only the standard method mentioned I think. All associated tables and text are pared down to include only those options found during creation of those characters.

Skills and their resolution and the Combat section are handled in the same way - bare minimums for the skill set presented (including homeworld and background skill choices)

There is a limited equipment section with some armours (up to cloth I think) and a selection of about 10 common weapons.

No starships, no world creation, no trading rules, no Encounter section.

The book does what it says on the tin - it gives a new player an intro to their Traveller character and how to play it on a personal encounter level, I asked my local shop (Inner Sanctum Collectibles in Cambridge) to hang on to one for me if they had any left over after Free RPG Day and I'll hand it round as a spare and intro copy of the rules for novice players to get a handle on the game. I think they had a further spare copy on Monday when I went to pick up my copy.

Book 0 is going to be available as 9.95 USD product.

Source?
The Game Trade Monthly #101, from Alliance Distributing. It's some what available from Alliance-games.com or go to your FLGS and ask for a look; or the Diamond Monthly for a comic shop. It's a catalog that is free to Game Stores that order from those companies. We also get some copies to give to customers.

Ah, likely* to be the case then, both in date and cost. Disappointing, esp. if it's the same product as Free RPG Day and especially so if the PDF version costs or if there's no PDF version. This isn't a product to make a profit on, it's the hook to get people into the line.

I understand how long it can take to print a product but a PDF version could (and should) be up by now.

* though not set in stone, mainly due to the 2 month or so advance lead time for Direct shops IIRC

Gosh, they might be constrained from many PDF' products because it is a Licensed Product. Or maybe they want us to buy it in a physical product form, rather than have it virused out thru the web. I can only hope.

This is a cross-post from the SM Is Out thread but it pertains to Book 0.

A good online store for the U.S. is Noble Knight Games. The owner has been in business for years and, IMO, his prices and shipping rates are reasonable and his rating of the condition of used games is right on the mark.

And he has Spinward Marches in stock as well as Traveller Book 0. He'll include Book 0 for free if you include it in your order.

If anyone's interested..

He also has some of the old Traveller items (CT, MT, TNE) by GDW, FASA, and others available as well. I don't work for the guy but I'm a very loyal customer because of how he well treats his customers.

Sorry, it's already been "virused out thru the web". These days you can assume most any book will be available within a week, month tops of print release. So it's better to release it officially in PDF form, in this case free or for sale, as well as in print.

I'd like to also give my accolades to Noble Knight Games on sending me Traveller Book 0. I got tipped off about them by AKAramis on this forum and placed an order through them and recieved TWO copies of Traveller Book 0 with my order. They shipped it out the same day the order was made and the packing is the best I've ever seen (having worked for both FedEx and UPS, I can attest to what abuse packages may go through in shipping).

I can't recomend Noble Knight Games enough. Give them a shot if you are in the States.
