Transformers....

Well I have not seen if there is a thread on this here, but I thought I would bring it up anyway...

I have seen a few transformer type systems out there, but I'd love to see a rpg for it, instead of just like it with conversion potential...

There are a few sources and multiple different storylines depending on where you go. Almost like alternate campaigns depending on which storyline you want to go with.

Basic Cartoon with movie
Beast wars CGI cartoon
one or two strange cartoons, not that good
Energon / cybertron thingy

Then there are a few different Comic storylines that I thought worked quite well and the novels.

Plus the motion picture due next year... would be a good time to get it out ;-)

minature game would be awsome

one action to transform

be awsome

i exspect hero clx illget hat licience with film comming out

Could be done better, as far as I can tell, they are not truely a miniature game, more like a board game where the figures actually fire at the other figures...

and it is possible to do SW vs Transformers...

WEll, there are miniatures, at least it is a start. You could always repaint them. Hell, I'd by one of each figure and keep one original. They could always be used for an RPG or you could do a faction for Vor, or do your own homebrew thing.

shame it went down this rout, but then i spose its sortof inevitable.

if bf evo got in the toyshops like this thed make a killing.

And shoot themselves in the head in the long run. I'm still buying some of these and gonna do my own thing with 'em. I pout a transformers rpg thread in the RQ forum to get feedback from other gamers if you are interested evil.

There is a rpg suppliment called Megamorph if your intersted in something written like it is meant for Transformers, but avoided the name ;-)

Sounds like your on your way to making a good list there. It would be good to have a faction set up around the various segments of Transformers.

I'm sure a better book could be made with the Transformers brand, background and actual characters :)

eard of it, but I agree the name transformers on the front of the book, not to mention expansion books on the universe.

Still need to write rules.
Ideas for other factions were maximals, predacons (From beast wars), and some of the earlier versons of the autobots and decepticons, as well as autobots who fled to other planets. They would be a slight variant on the main lists.

With the different series, I suppose for the armada/energon/cybertron sagas you could bring in mini cons, power linx and energon weapons, make the miniatures a bit bigger, and cut down on the amount of models that make a squad and buff them up. You could do the reverse for beast war factions.

With regard to name characters, it could be done like lotr.
You could release each miniature as follows:
Say you release optimus prime, he could be used as optimus, but optimus is also a leader, so you could have 4 alrternate metal pieces, a gun, head, legs, and chest piece, and you could also use it as your own leader models character. Then you could upgrade him like a 40K character with wargear, such as invisibility like mirage, or strong arms like hiffer, or enhanced speed like blurr.

Though for miniatures, you need at least to versions, the robot and the transformed version...

This is to avoid the confusion of "but I was in robot mode" becuase I'm sure they should have different capabilties and defences...

Also there were quite a few varients on the transformers front..

G1 - Origional Cartoon - comic varient with different storyline
G2 - Noteable because megatron was a tank
Beast Wars
Some hybrid with optimis being a firetruck and combining with utlra magnus
I'm sure there was another one here that was quite bad
Amarda/Energon/Cybertron - each can have varients
War without End - Grimlock was a tank
Gi'Joe Cross overs - three different styles
Stream Era - Bumblebee was a locomotive
new Movie version of G1 - Decepticons are mostly jet fighters (inc soundwave)

Now with all these era's it would be good to see something that allowed a bit of everything, as well as concentrate on one.

I believe this would work great as an RPG, it is what I am planning on setting up as a new campaign next year... I will need most of the year to plan it, as the current rules I have require a lot of set up time.

If it was done similaar to confrontation, i.e, different incarnations with the rules printewd with the characters.
I think it would be better to assume that a character has traits that reflect being in vehicle mode, but always having the models in robot mode. If you take too many hits, you cannot transform and thus cannot use the traits, or you can keep your traits and take penalties for being damaged and stuck in vehicle mode as a result, i.e, damaged arm, engine hit, blown out tires.
Likewise there could be dedicated units in air mode (decepticon G1 planes strafing the battlefield).

Either that or came in a pair one robot one vehicle mode...

I like the visualisations...

It does lead to advanced versions of the robot or the vehicle...

Though I hope it won't be a collector set... CMG... like star wars (though figures are cool)

As far as using them, replacing a figure when it changes is better than putting a counter down saying it is a vehicle (or some other visual way of demonstrating) ;-)

There is also the comics to consider which were a lot more detailed and explained a lot more things like Megatron only being one leader with other Decepticon leaders being present with their own faction such as Scorponok, Thunderwing, Shockwave, Ratbat, Straxus (kind of the main leader until he was defeated) and several more.

Also, in the comics they had Unicrons followers being called the Heralds of Unicron or something like that.

As for unique Decepticons, well there was the Tripredacus Council in Beast Wars that were the official leaders of the Predacons. There is also the 'Seekers' that Starscream belonged to.
