Hi All,

I am looking at starting Narn now with the Narn Reinforcement box which contains:

2 Thentus Frigates
2 G'Karith Patrol Cruiser
2 Sho'Kar Light Scout Cruiser
1 Rongoth Destroyer
1 Var'Nic Long Range Destroyer
18 Gorith Fighters

I was going to add 2 G'Quan Heavy Cruisers to start my fleet.

Is this a good start for a Narn player?

Its ok, but IMHO its lacking its infamous punch of some Ka'Tocs and Frazi. Dont get me wrong, those are'nt bad ships. But you might find you need at least some more skirmish ships, and fighters thats all.

Depends on what level you will be playing at.

If playing mostly raid games you could get by with only the one G'quan as you also have a Var'Nic at battle.

Regardless you will need the Ka'Toc sculpts. I find that even with three in the fleet I use a couple of more would be nice. The Thentus will serve you well as a substiture but it lacks real punch in the way a Ka'Tan does not.

As to the Frazi, eh, would be nice to have the right models and all but the Gorith will do fine, and are nice in mine light fleets. We frequently sub fighter models around here as folks just do not have the cash for large numbers of all kinds.

The G'Karith model is very nice for smaller engagements. G'Sten is a nasty surprise as well, though she does not last long with hull 4.

The re-inforcements box contains some nice ships, I personally seem to be the only one who rates the thentus pretty highly. Sure the ka'Toc is faster and has a fighter flight, but the maneuvreability of the thentus is it's strength, and it still has more beam dice thana G'Quan!
the G'Quan is worth getting a couple of, as you can also use it for the G'Lan (one of my most succesful ships) a G'Koch, or even the redundant warships, but if you don't have a bin'Tak you may want to try a G'Quonth anyway.

Overall, add a G'Quan model or two, a couple of Ka'Tocs, and maybe buy another rongoth/rothan to give you more at raid. The Rothan is actually pretty effective I find in mid level battles. The Fighters while nice, I use tokens, as mine keep falling off the base!

I think your best are skirmish ships. The Ka´toc is perhaps the best, but not in every situation.
I found myseklf fighting in some scenarios where I needed more turns (ambush, convoy duty). Thentus was great for that. I would take two of them in every campaign.
I found the Sho´kar scout surprisingly good at low cost scenarios. Usually my opponent did not expect so many weapons from a scout vessel.
Anyway in normal situations the Ka´toc is best of all.
And I of course love the huge Bin´Tak.
So I would add to your roster some Ka´tocs and a Bin´tak, though the last is not really necessary.

The G'Lan (a G'Quan varient) is indeed an excellent ship, dont underestimate the sheer punch of a G'Quan loaded with ship breakers either though!

As noted many times above too though, Ka'Tocs are truly nasty little ships. They may not look that much on paper but trust me they HURT (and Ka'Tans are arguably even nastier)

No Narn fleet is complete without lots of Ka'Tocs(or more likely, Ka'Tans). By far the best Narn ship. I have six of them myself and probably should have more.

My only complaint is that I think the Ka'Toc is the ugliest non-Armageddon Narn ship. Just my luck that it'd be the best Narn ship.

I speak along with the others by recommedning that you get hold of several Ka'Toc models for Ka'Toc/Ka'Tan's. An excellent warship. Thentus aren't to be ruled out in your fleet and actually perfrom better the higher thr priority of the battle as against hull 6 ships their weak twin link weapons don't matter. I would consider getting hold of another Rongoth minature for another Rothan and a T@loth minature as these are great soakers of damage also and are pretty useful in a scrap. The Only obvious model I would recommend is the Bin'Tak...no Narn fleet is complete without one, these ships are awesome. These ships alongside the proposed G'Quan warships you intend to purchase should give you good versatility.
