We ended the world today.

Or, more precisely, we fixed a date for armageddon. December 2014.

If you are a RuneQuest player or, better, a Glorantha-phile, put this date in your diary. You won't want to miss this :)

Between now and then, however, we will be fully mapping out Glorantha, having a look at HeroQuests in the RQ system, chatting with Vikings, Romans and stiff-lipped Brits, building up the repetoire of all serious practitioners of magic, revisiting Darra Happa, launching epic crusades and invasions, playing with relics man was _really_ not meant to mess with, breaking dragons, sailing wild seas, and, well, oodles more!

What is this all about? End of the licence? Can't see what else it might be, as planning for the next six months is hard, let alone six years.

Do tell.

My idea is that it is planned that in December 2014 the full campaign for ending the EWF/Godlerner war (as it will be described campaign books, and sourcebooks) will be ended at that point (1049 ST Seshnela will sink... a few years later Slontos will too).

Which about 18 books a year this means that we will get about 117 more books until then. :-)

Noooo. . . The RQ licence goes far beyond 2014 - and we do indeed have a structure for both RQ and Traveller that goes that far. . .

The NOW of Glorantha 2nd Age, as presented in MRQ so far is 907 ST.

Dara Happa Stirs will presend a campaign for 10 years!

If we get more books like that we can easily be at 1042, where the EWF is put down, and 1049/1050 where the Godlearners are destroyed.

Mongoose's attention to Glorantha sounds very promising - exploring a whole new age in an exciting time. If they carry on like this I may be tempted to start investing in their Glorantha books!!

Vikings and other RQ stuff always sounds good too!!

There's all sort of goodies on the schedule for Glorantha. It really IS and exciting phase for us.

I wonder whether Mongoose may be able to make Glorantha more accessable to those of us who are really time-poor? I've toyed with Glorantha off and on over the last 15 years or so, but although it is a truely epic and mythic creation (on par with any other great work of fiction even) it is very hard to tackle for those very reasons...where do you start in such a rich, complex and fully visioned world?

A line of Glorantha fiction may help?

Or, short pdf docs introducing small parts of the game / mythos - maybe like Apple Lane? Brief packaged ready-run scenarios with information about cultures, cults etc?

Blood of Orlanth - and when you are done with that, Dara Happa Stirs.

Seriously, one of the objectives of these self-contained campaigns is to ease people into Glorantha!

There's no doubt that Glorantha can be a daunting prospect.

However, I really believe that Robin Laws' 'Glorantha the Second Age' is an excellent way of being introduced to the world. First of all, he manages to convey more of Glorantha's diverse cultures, in a much shorter space, than any previous book or game. He has a knack for getting across some very complex information regarding myths and culture in a short space and understandable way.

But, as Matt says, 'Blood of Orlanth' and 'Dara Happa Stirs' are both ways of introducing Glorantha in bite-sized chunks. They both offer detailed cultural overviews linked to epic campaigns - and playing in Glorantha, rather than just reading the source material, is the best way to get to grips with it.

My advice? Don't be daunted by Glorantha's massive scale: focus on one area, get stuck into playing it without worrying if you're 'doing it right', and then expand out from there as the mood takes you. 'Blood of Orlanth' and 'DH Stirs' will let you do that quite neatly.

Mattt / Loz, thanks. You're both making it really difficult for me not to buy the 2nd age and one of those campaign modules

Matt - could you confirm whether the naval weapons have been included in the reprinted RQD?

Also - if you're reading this - what about my Enc / Size question?

Cheers

John.
