The Techno-Mage?

One member of my gaming group was asking me this question about the up coming Techno-Mage book and I have no answer for him. Is the Techno-Mage still going to be a Prestige class or will there be a new Techno-Mage class like student?

A full blown class.

so does the class have some actual spell descriptions or are the rules based around making your own... or is it like the D&D spell style lists as per level

There are a LOT of Technomgic incantations provided, split amongst the various schools of specialisation. I cant really go into specifics due to the NDA... but suffice it to say I seriously doubt any Technomage fans out there will be dissapointed.

Ahhhh.... Technomages. The most likely to be asked for class, but the rarest in the galaxy. :) Unless of course you make it the core of your campaign.

Sounds great. But one of my players was going for the Techno-Mage Prestige class. So I take it now they just can Multi-class into that class.

You can't multi-class into the techno-mage class. As anyone who's read the books knows, you have to start training from a very young age, and techno-mage implants aren't just something you can jam into your body whenever you want. If you want to be a techno-mage, it's a life decision.

Also, there are no techno-mage spell levels. Okay, I know you're saying WHAAA??? But it's true. No spell levels. Seriously. Yes, all the spells from the Techno-Mage Trilogy are in there...fireball, invisibility, personal shield, flying platform, destruction and more...but no spell levels. It's all done with a system of...well, you can see for yourself when the book comes out.

So what about the Techno-mage Prestige class? Can that still be used?

Not without tweaking it enough to allow for the inclusion of Technomagic spells. As it is its more a case of either or, but the book provides far more options and depth than the current prestige.

Thanks for the information I can not wait for the Techno-Mage book to see what the requirements are for this class.

AM i assuming too much in thinking that there will be rules for you to follow to make new spells??

There is indeed a brief section of guidelines for creating new spells.

From the "more information than you really wanted" department:

Techno-mages must be vertebrates with a generally humanoid form and nervous system. The tech that gives them their powers must conform to this basic standard. The race must not be inherently telepathic, because mages and telepathy don't get along. Hmm, I wonder why that could be...?

Thus, for example, the Gaim can't be telepaths because their insectoid forms don't have the right kind of nervous system, and the Vree can't join with the tech because their telepathic nature makes them incompatible. Historically, most of the other B5 races have representatives among the mages, and there are rules in the book for racial benefits related to magery.

By the way, the book also has rules for two new races, the Kaitay and the Taratimude, the latter of which has Techno-mage as a favoured class.

umm Agent one... dont you mean the Gaim cant be Techno-mages.... because they are insectoid...... NOT Telepaths

Read it again. I said:

I did not in any way state the Gaim were telepaths. What I said was the Vree were telepaths, which is stated in the B5 Main Rulebook, p.172.
