Game 1 of a short campaign. 7 pt war space superiority.
EA 3rd age. Warlock, 3 Omega, 4 Hyperion, 2 Nova, Explorer, Avenger plus assorted skirmish/patrol PL ships.
ISA. 2 Tara'Lin, 10 White Stars, WS carrier, Cidicar, Blue star swarm.
Turn 1: The Tara'Lins and Cidicar sit 'out of range' at the back ready to support the attack while WS/BS skirt the EA fleet in a pincer taking advantage of the small amount of cover and the Earth fleet powers towards the center for a brawl.
First shot, a pair of Omegas had lined up on the closest Tara'Lin. 19 hits, 4 crits including a 6,6 and a 6,5. Goodbye Tara'Lin. Explosion caught Tara'Lin no. 2 destroying the ships engines and stealth. It then replies by crippling an Oracle scout. The Warlock launches an attack on the stealthless Tara'Lin, scoring 11 damage from a missile battery (more crits) then destroying it with its laser.
Long story short, end of turn 1 EA losses: 45 hits, 38 crew across the entire fleet.
ISA survivors: Cidicar, 5 White Stars, WS Carrier (crippled), 7 Blue Stars (22 hits across all the Blue Stars)
Turn 2: Several Jump Points appear as the ISA run for safety. Cidicar pulls off a tight turn and slips off the table edge. EA forces line uo on their targets. Shooting phase leaves 2 White Star and 3 Blue Stars safely hidden behind a planet to escape.
Turn 3: Survivors escape. EA wins.
Game took 50 minutes including deployment.
ISA player saw the funny side. I owe him a drink and he still plans on carrying on with the fleet in the campaign.
Not one EA beam shot scored less than double the average number of hits. Not one shot failed to score at least one crit. Theres something surprisingly unsatisfying about a game where everything goes right and every dice is in your favor. You don't feel like you earned the victory.
