The Return?

Might not necessarily be something mongoose have done in the past.

Could also be Matt going "Well I loved x, so that counts."

If they've got access to all the Rebellion licences, please be Rogue Trooper.

I would love to see the return of either SST or Babylon 5, or maybe even the Warzone (The Mutant Chronicles) any other game I'm not interested in.

It does not necessaryily mean an old Mongoose Game. It could be anything from the gaming past.

As Mongoose has its "toy soldier" games :D. I think it could probably be ACTA type game but not B5, unless Matt has sneakily got the license on the sly. There is a big space combat void to be filled.

Could it be a deal with the Devil GW and Mongoose got the License to revitalise Battle Fleet Gothic ACTA????

Although I do hope it is B5, I suspect not.

Unfortunately the space miniatures void has been filled by 'Firestorm Armada' which having played a couple of times is very good.

The rules are as simple as ACTA, the miniatures are great in resin and they have a good response to players suggestions.

I am sorry to say, but I think that Mongoose have missed the boat on this now, they won't get back the dominant position they had before.

Wasn't Mongoose supposed to be releasing a new version of ACTA anyway but using a different universe? Or is that project dead in the water now? *scratches head*

Unfortunately I can only agree to the above...
 :(

It is a shame really ACTA is a good rules set (we still play it regularly and attend the tourneys).

Have Firestorm Armada rules (Last place prize from Aldershot :D) still have to read them. Have to admit the resin models do look very very nice.

Maybe if Mongoose do go with ACTA again maybe go with the high quality resin instead of metal. Lets be honest if the minis look shiny and pretty we gamers will buy them.

see alot of ACTA regulars around the firestorm forums, all depends on the minis/license mongoose do on whether they can beat FSA these days.
I myself have a directorate and aquan fleet (with directorate being my main) and the models are really really nice

I wouldn't' say that firestorm Armada has filled the void for ship to ship combat. I for one don't care for the rules, and while a lot of the ships do look really nice they tend to be larger then the size i normally use.

I just hope that it isn't some lame ass game that only gets like half the support that it needs to thrive and causes more people to loose their faith in Mongoose.

Hi guys,

Just two things to say at the moment.

It is not B5 - sorry, but that bird has flown and the licence is way to expensive vs. the interest in the property these days.

The space combat arena is far from filled at the moment (and probably never will be). Plenty of room for everyone. The one advantage we would have (if we were to do another space combat game) is that you all already know how to play!

For a space combat game to be successful, I would suggest it has to be 'themed' like B5 was. "You've seen the show, now play the game"

In which case what would it be, there is no current 'space' based TV series; the old hacks such as Star Wars and Star Trek have licences so tied up in red tape if you fart in a 'Star Trek' fashion you are slapped with a writ!

Therefore you are left with starting something new, like Firestorm Armada. This has already been done and Mongoose would need to do a lot of catching up.

Finally, if it's a 'Traveller' space combat game, that was done back in the day (even the 2nd additon books has rules for it) and it was cack! Also, I don't think Traveller has the fan base or exposure to make it truely popular!

Mighty Armies is still with Rebel minis.

Judge Dredd/GoMC1 is ulready undergoing a rebirth.

Which leaves:

ACTA in a non-B5 way.

Starship Troopers

Battlefield Evolution: World at War (he didn't actually say with miniatures)

BFE: Modern (with or without prepainted minis).

---------

Or it could be a non-Mongoose game entirely.

Just seen this on the VaS board:

If we were to do a second edition of VaS (not saying we are :)), we would remove the Crew score altogether. It is a relic from CTA and, given that the next generation of CTA won't have a Crew score on ships, it does seem rather redundant in VaS...

Which could be a clue!

Of course it doesn't actually mean there is going to be another ACTA, or that that was the game Matt was talking about in the blog.
