The Mass Battle System from RQ: Legendary Heroes

Hey, didn't you ban yourself or something?

Was the allure of new rules to mess with too much to resist? :)

Not banned, a self-imposed, exile.

I just got really, really cu7rious about the posting, it sounded like something was missing, or that things were bad. With the rolls being opposed, modifers for odds, and damage multiplied by number of attackers, things seem to work out much more nicely.

I guess I should have put a "Happy New Year!" in with the previous posting to fit in according the the rules of my exile. On the other hand, some Mongooses have mentioned that thing have sort of settled down back to normal lately.

P.S. Just curious, about how they handle ranged attacks in the mass battle rules. Are they unopposed? I was just thinking that in a battle where archers conduct a missile attack on a group of swordsmen, across a battlefield, I can't see the archers dropping over dead by losing the opposed roll.

No, but that would be amusing. The opposed roll is made when someone performs the battle order to inflict damage. The unit that is being targeted cannot cause damage at all until they get to their Battle Order in the turn. If they are victorious in the opposed roll, they have successfully avoided taking any real damage. Narratively this means that all the hits were mere flesh wounds, nothing major and what not.

That make some sense?

Oh yeah, welcome back atgxtg. :)

If you miss the old days around here there is plenty of fun to be had over at the BF:Evo Forum. Though the best thread from the past week over there is, alas, no longer with us.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I sort of liked the idea of "defender doing damage" in Close Combat though. IT makes a lotof sense for when a poor quality unit attacks a seasoned unit that is entrenched or has some other strong position.

I am a bit curious about how a large force is going to handle a bunch of smaller units. Could lead to some tactical difficulties.

Oh, and with the opposed system, how does skill halving work? I'm thinking that is some cases (skilled units with bladesharp and morale and battefiledl modifers) skills could go over 100%, possibly drastically reducing the effect of superior numbers. Not a criticism, just wondering about how it all interlaces with the rest of the MRQ rules.

Thanks, but I wasn't really gone, just not posting out of protest over how some board rules were enforced. I still think the forum is highly vulnerable to "thread-assassination", but the forum seems to have settled down.

I don't know how much posting I'll be doing. I'm not enamored with the direction MRQ is going in, so I'm not sure how constructive or relevant my viewpoint will be. Chalk it up to "artistic differences". This topic appealed to me since it was one of the first forays into waters uncharted by RQ (and possibly worth importing for other RQ/BRP games). [/i]

Which "old days"? The pre-release days of mystery, the early release days of strife, or the days of the 24 hour threads? Somethings I miss, and some I don't. TO be more accurate, there are some people I miss chatting with from all those "old days". Some people had excellent ideas, and views and were very interestesting to interact with.

BF:Evo is really not my sort of thing.
