The infestation begins

Breten

Mongoose
So it started with a couple boxes of Grizzlies to be used in Gangs of Mega-City One as Punks for my latest gang. Starship Troopers has now infested my house. After the Exosuits I grabbed a box each of Pathfinders, and the Pathfinder K9 squad, agan to use in Gangs as my Juves. It helps that the LGS is clearing out at 40% off.

So then I get ahold of the Roughnecks CGI series. I've made my way through half of it so far. But it lit a spark of interest in me.

This past weekend I ended up grabbing a box of Arachnid Warriors, a Brain bug, and a mega swarm of Ripplers. Love those models. So I make a post looking for anyone clrearing out SST stuff that they don't want anymore.

By this time next month I should have 2 SST box sets, Cap Troopers, Female Cap Troopers, Heroes of the MI, CHAS, M8 Ape, M9 Chickenhawk, box of Hoppers, Firefries, and another box of Warriors (52 total).

Damn addictions. I'll just have to make sure I get a couple games in. I know my buddy is making up a Justice Department army using the article in S&P 31. SO at the very least my bugs will end up tasting some judges.

So what's the consensus on the Tiger Warriors? I've read through the forums and couldn't find any real good info, other than some people like the extra inch and +1 piercing and others don't think it's worth it.

I'm also curious as to how often other players use the Warriors and Workers option for the Arachnid Warriors. All the time or occasionally?

What's the Arachnid unit you never leave home without?

Im firmly in the Tiger bugs are awesome catagory. In my experiance an opponant either completly underestimates them and pays the price, or at the other extreme gets overly paranoid and gives them a wide berth, either way its worth taking a unit (I also like the fact that as long as one gets into the unit you can generally make up the points for the whole unit with reactions).

As for the bug I tend to use no matter what, other than the tanker and brain, Im a bit of a cliff mite fanatic, cheap as chips, able to tunnel and not worth the time it takes to kill :D can't go wrong lol.

As an MI I find regular Warriors definitely more dangerous due to the carrion upgrade. Makes them far more survivable and they're still cheaper than Tigers.

I'd go workers and warriors.
A unit of 15 carrion bugs costs 300..... they get a reroll but killshots still take them out. The same points worth of workers is double the amount. Slightly easier to kill individually, but great for swamping tactics, statistically they are more likely to make it in too (two killshots take out two carrion bugs at 40 points, or two workers at just 20). The workers will be affected by morita fire a little worse as they close in but they are far more able to soak up the heavier stuff. As soon as the MI player realises it's carrion then the big guns come out, and at 20 points each it's worth using up the ordnance.
An MI player will have to concentrate fire to take out carrion bugs, but faced with two units of 15 he's got less options and only a few have to make it into combat to rip apart MI.
Lots of workers coupled with hoppers and brains has always worked for me.
Tigers are great as a one of shock tactic.... also, in the fluff it says they don't have to look different from the other warriors. Not sure how I'd feel if someone pulled that on me though.

Thanks, i was curious about the Tigers as with a total of 52 Warriors on the way, I thought I'd start painting up the six I got this weekend, and since I like to paint squads together, I figured this batch of 6 would be my test model of regular warriors and 5 Tigers. And I'm liking the swarm of cheaper Workers.

Have all warriors and a few tankers.
I try and take this. Also at least 6 flyers, 12 is always good though!

Hoppers are good fun. Ripplers are okay, the suicidal ones are great.

yup, either way, lots of warriors, that makes you flexible. (you don't have to use them all, you could go carrion). But your opponent will have to plan for hundreds of weak expendable workers or a core of rock hard carrions. The tankers, hoppers etc.... give you the shock value to finish a game.
If you don't have enough warriors, then you are fighting an uphill battle before you start (he'll know what he needs to take out).

True, if enemy fields a lot of killshot-capable weapons (some skinnies, exos, marauder). However for LAMI, and even CAP based armies greatest concern is Morita fire, and then carrion becomes important factor (re-rollable save). Mixing workers w/carrion allows for still cheap troops w/very good survivability against rifle fire.
As usuall it depends on the enemy list.

Also Ripplers going as air units are very dangerous against unsuspecting MI, and absolute terror if MI are low on AA weapons :)

I jus cleaned off the balconey, which will be the staging area for my SST figs. In between painintg my Hordes & Warmachine I'll be assembling this stuff.

Bugs first, then the MI. So far I have:

SST Box Set
2x Arachnid Warriors (1 box assembled)
Brain bug
mega swarm of Ripplers
Hoppers
Firefries

Pathfinders
Pathfinders K9
Grizzlies +Cougar & Grizzly officers
CAP Troopers
female CAP Troopers
Heroes of the MI
Chas Robot
Ape Marauder
Chickenhawk

man, I really need a platoon of exosuits. they are the only MI figures i don't have, nad everyone seems to have so much fun with them. While I'm at it i might as well pick up an overseer and have one of everything for both amies.

Good to here your interested in the game.

Yeah, I've got 2 boxes of Grizzlies, and love the models. no idea about game play though as I haven't even tried it yet.

With what I've got, I can make a 2000 point platoon of Power suits.

Lt in Cougar Exosuit
NCO in M8 Ape Marauder
4 Squads of CAP troopers
CHAS Robot

That's 2000 with no training or extras other than 4 Missile launchers, 2 sniper rifles and 2 flamers. I started working on getting all of the MI organized into squads and offiers. It's all separarted into what I'll be building.

Um, have you read S&P #44 Wargamer yet?

umm, that's only on Plastics, not exosuits or overseers. How does that help me?

Steve

I have a 2000+ point Cap trooper PLatoon, a 1500 point LAMI platoon, a 2000Point MAuarader platoon, nad a 2000 point PAthfinder PLatoon. Exosuit are litterally the only models and only platoon type i don't durrently have.

I also have about 4000 points of bugs, and about 4000 points of skinnies

Ideally, i want 2 boxes of Grizzlys and 2 boxes of Cougars. that way i can have 2 squads of 3 for each type, plis 2 couger officers

I was directing you to my recent article on assembly of metal Exosuit models in a way that could allow weapons options swaps. This allows you to have models that match the weapons options that you bought for any particular game. It would only be of help if you wished to not glue your weapons on your models. There are also some thoughts on alternate priming methods and painting suggestions. See page 69.

This topic reminds me so much of my own crazed buying.

If it makes you feel any better about gaming addictions, I just did an inventory of my Mobile Infantry last night (official and some stand-ins) and I've got just shy of 13,000 points of troops and weapon upgrades without any ability upgrades like Go Career. When I'm finally done assembling and painting what I've collected, I'll have 9 platoons (WASP, EXO, Marauder, x3 PAMI, x2 LAMI, Pathfinder) + Fleet assets. Crazy!! I haven't tallied my Arachnids yet, but I think my Bugs are feeling a little outnumbered..

Sadly I've only had time to play about 5 games since last summer when we started SST. Can't help on the "Bugs I most often field" questions because I haven't had enough games under my belt to make a good call on that. I really like using all the troop types and like to mix things up each game.

Let me just say, you aren't alone my friend. Not at all. I'm currently painting up 120 Light Armour Troopers (LAMI). I have two forts constructed and a few smaller MI outposts and bunkers, and none of them have seen a game yet. They would if I could haul them to any conventions in my corner of the U.S. but my car is too small for transport. Talk about frustrating!

It's funny when people try and deny that it is an addiction. But it totally is. The sheer number of games and models I've collected over the years that I haven't used is staggering.

That said, I thought I'd post what I'm looking at for a 2000 point bug platoon. It's what I'll have after I pick up the King Tanker bug this weekend from the LGS.

Brain Bug
King Tanker
5 Firefries
3 Hoppers
9 Ripplers
12 Warrior bugs
12 Warrior bugs
12 Warrior bugs

At the very least my Arachnids will be facing off against UMW's Gangs of Mega-City One Judge army in a few battles. We put together a list using the S&P article and all of Uncle Mike's Gangs models (we could field the Judges and Civvies with what he has).
