The darklords, weird rules...

Although the rules for the 3 gifts or Naar makes them interesting, for they have to be in the darklands to keep their powers i think it does not really make sense with the books. The fact that they would loose hps when not in the darklands seems absurd, since Zagarna did attack Holmgard and Haakon seemed to have suffered no discomfort by being in Vassagonia... any one can share his thoughts about this ?

If I can remember correctly, they were allegedly wearing equipment that was filled with air from the Darklands to sustain their dark power. Naturally, this is not an infinite supply and they'd have to return to the Darklands eventually. It wasn't until Gnaag created that device that allowed the Darklords to breathe their home environment at all times that they could leave the Darklands indefinitely.

In Shadow on the Sand in the end fight, Haakon is in one section described as being weakened. As I have understood it, the Darklords could survive for an extended period outside of the Darklands, but they became weakened and would die if they stayed outside for a longer time. Zagarna did probably feel weak, but the Archlord would NEVER miss the opportunity to see the house of Ulnar destroyed and Sommerlund crushed. A bit discomfort would be a small price to pay.
