The Art of Conan

I think this is a good place to talk about the Art of the Conan RPG. The questions are: who are you're favorite Conan artists? I, myself, find Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazzetta to be the best.

These images, I think, are the best of Conan and Red Sonja.

Feel free to state what you think is the best of Conan Art and what should have been on the Cover of the RPG.

The first and second ones, yes.

Personally, though, I can't stand Boris Vallejo's soft-core airbrush Conan, where the characters look more like still models than actual people. I see no reason why Red Sonja, a fighting woman, would be wearing a chain-mail thong outfit, either.

Personally, I prefer the later Conan art of Barry Windsor-Smith (not the early comic stuff), Frazetta, and some of Estaban Maroto's artwork, all of which had realistic looking costumes. Ken Kelley's stuff is hit-or-miss for me.

I grew up on the Savage Sword of Conan Comics by Marvel. I was always partial to Ernie Chan and Gary Kwapisz. Vallejo as the cover artist on the novels drew me in. I still have Frazettas work in poster form. All in all I favor the Chan/Kwapisz art for the Black and Whites...I like Vallejo and Frazetta for color work.

Frazetta is the best !!!   And I think Bisley did some very good works as well...
And in b&w, I love the work of Alfredo Alcala and Nestor Redondo, inking over Buscema...

 And I hate Boris!!!

Justin Sweet would be perfect. Frazetta and Bisely is OK while Vallejo sucks bigtime.

Justin would also make a great b&w job. Swal, posting above, would not make such loosy b&w job himself. Check his thread.

Justin Sweet is seconded. If someone is the man for bringing Conan into the new mellenium its Justin. Dont know if he is expensive though, should be, he is owning the court atm.

Hmm, heres is a link for those of u who doesnt have Justins homepage bookmarked..
Enjoy

For those who enjoy sweet's artwork, you will be happy to hear that he has been selected to provide the covers for Ace's new line of Hyboriaan based novels. :p
