Terran Dawn Campaign [Research]

Banded Mongoose
As stated in the other thread, I'm going forward with a campaign set among the pocket empires of the Solomani Rim at the end of the Long Night (no exact date yet). Can someone think of a catchier but still descriptive name then, "Rim Dawn?"

Posting here for input, I'm assuming Mongoose isn't looking into a campaign book for such an obscure time and area. This is for fun anyway, not planning on a money-making project, just intending it to be something for myself and to share with others if interested.

First step, research.

Here are the resources I have thus far:

*Supplement 10: Solomani Rim - the first and primary resource, modern era.
*Alien Module 1: Aslan - some history correlates with the Rim.
*Alien Module 7: Hivers - some history correlates with the Rim.
*Alien Module 6: Solomani.
*Gurps Rim of Fire: campaign guide, modern era
*Gurps Interstellar Wars: pre 1st Imperium campaign (history, worlds, past ships, worlds, maps, past corporations, past governments)
*Gurps Alien Races 3: Hivers included (the race, history)
*Gurps Alien Races 2: Aslan included (the race, history, locs in the Rim)
*DonM's Integrated Traveller Timeline (excellet timeline from many sources)
*DGP's Solomani and Aslan supplment.
*Adv 8 - Prison Planet (world info)
*Adv 9 - Nomads of the World Ocean (world info)
*Adv 11 - Murder on Arcturus Station (world info)
*Adv 13 - Siganl GK (world info)
*Dbl Adv 3 Argon Gambit / Death Station (world info)
*Dbl Adv 4 Maroon / Marooned Alone (world info)
*Library Data Supplements 8 & 11 (other sources more updated?)
*MT Imperial Encyclopedia Library Data (more updated then Supp 8/11?)
*Gurps Humaniti (soley for the Acheron minor human race)
*Gurps Traveller core book (for the large library)
*Gateway University Library (website of library data)

[Editting above list from posts below]

What am I missing? Which old GDW adventures are set in the Rim? I have them all as reprints and on a CD, I guess I can read through them and see which have Rim information that is important. I have a Gurps Humaniti book, but it doesn't include Solomani that I recall - Gurps covered them elsewhere?

Worlds - Supplement 10 and Rim of Fire (both set after my campaign era) combined with Interstellar Wars (set before my campaign era) should give me tons of world notes, maps, and UWPs before and after my campaign. Adventure modules set on the Rim may have more world information.

History - DonM's timeline, Supplement 10, Alien Module 6, Rim of Fire, DGP's Solomani supplement, plus whatever isn't in them that I can glean from the old adventures.

Ships - I will look at Interstellar Wars ships (Solomani before my campaign) and Alien Module 6 ships (Solomani after my campaign) to get a feel of style for what they may have had in-between.

Vehicles - DGPs 101 Vehicles has several modern era Solomani vehicles that I can use for style reference. Perhaps Interstellar Wars has something also.

Adv 8 - Prison Planet and Adv 13 - Signal GK were both set in the Solomani Rim.

The MegaTraveller Adventure Arrival Vengeance has the PCs headed from the Spinward Marches through Aslan space to Core - can't recall, but they may have swung through the Solomani Rim

There may be things hidden in the Library Data Supplements 8 & 11.

The GDW game Invasion Earth might have useful fragments, too.

Others as I find them.

Sounds like you're good to go with what you've got - the GURPS books have everything you need since they're largely distilled from previous sources anyway. That era wasn't really covered in detail anywhere so you've got a good blank slate to work in there.

Also, the GURPS Solomani books are basically Rim of Fire and GT:Interstellar Wars. GURPS Humaniti just has other offshoots of humaniti in it (scattered all over Charted Space) and isn't so useful to you.

I dunno if T4's "Milieu 0" book has any info at all on the Solomani area, but it might given that it's the same era as what you're looking for. That said it's focussed on a totally different part of Charted Space so I suspect it'd get a mention at most.

(also, DGP didn't do a Hiver supplement - the only aliens books they did "Solomani and Aslan" and "Vilani and Vargr")

Thanks for the responses, editting my list as I get more information.

Read through it extensively, only mentions the date 3rd Imp scouts first met Solomani (Yr 100 from memory) and that they had heard rumors of pocket empires rimward before that time.

Ok good I already have the important one then, old DGP books can be expensive.

Thanks, I have all of the above in print or on CD will add them to my list and take a look when I get a chance.

"Nomads of the World Ocean" is also set in the Solomani Rim.

I called my Terran-based campaign "Terra Resurgent" , but "Terra Dawn", "Solomani Dawn", or "Terra Reborn" might be good. Or "Terra from the Ashes."

I used the term "Terra" or "Terran" more than "Solomani" since Solomani has some negative connotations in the OTU (rather like "Nazi"). Personally, I'd also stay away from using the word "Rim." It just always seems to elicit snickers....

Thanks, I'm changing to "Terran Dawn" for now. If I ever get to the point to post a campaign pdf for others I will try to remember to give you title credits. :)

I just got a chance to check Arrival Vengeance - nothing really useful in it.

Thanks, removed it from the list.

Awwwww, shucks ... :D

Actually, I'd just love to see what you write up. Let me know if you need any other specific help.

BTW: The Traveller's Digest #13 has a large feature on Terra in Megatraveller and #17 features Kusyu, the Aslan homeworld. Also, several fanzines like Stellar Reaches have articles on the Solomani Rim as well, although they probably aren't considered canon.

There are many sources of library data I have access to. Is there one that is all encompassing so I don't have to sift through them all?

I have large library data sections in -

Original supplements 8 and 11
Later CT versions of above
Megatraveller library data (in Imperial Encyclopedia)
Gateway University Library (online source)
Gurps Traveller core book library entries

The traveller wiki is OK, but I've found it to often be unclear regarding what is actually canon and what is not. So take it with a pinch of salt.

TBH, I think you've got all you need - you're looking at rapidly diminishing returns after your primary sources that you've already listed. The part of Charted Space that you're looking at in that specific era hasn't really been officially covered in any detail before.

As EDG has said, the history of the era you are looking at is mostly undefined. The above three references will give you pretty much all you need to create your setting. Seriously, everything else is overkill, unless it contains a specific world you specifically plan on using.
