Tank scale

Mongoose
I don't know whether this question has answered or not. I did a quick search but did not find the answer. In the pictures, it seems that the tanks are relatively smaller compared to infantry. Are the two in the same scale? Thanks.

Short answer, yes, but the infantry bases create the optical illusion that the tanks are too small. Mongoose are looking at changing the bases.

Long answer... http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22984

Note that this effects all manufacturers in scales above 15mm. Look at GW for a start, as Terminators look massive next to landraiders (because the base adds an extra 4-5mm to their height.
Everything on the ubiquitous slotta base has that problem. Even historicals.

ok well i have 2 of them here with me :D and there pretty much spot on to be described as around 12 foot wide. (challenger and abrahms)

definatly smaller than 1:48 by an inch width or so id say, ile get some pics up soon.

that said i got failed prototype modles that didnt quite make the grade ( a prize from MGP for best painted army in tourny)

If the infantry are 1:60, the Challenger 2 hull should be 139 long x 59 wide x 41 tall (mm).

The scale difference is enough to stop me buying.

Shame, otherwise it looks like a cool game. The scale difference makes it feel too much like kiddy toys rather than grown-up models.

Heh, that's the the part about this whole pre-painted thing that I really dislike. Before I could say toys? No sir! I'm 27 years old, I don't play with toys! These are miniatures. I had to painstakingly assemble, shape, and paint each one individually!

Now I'm forced to admit that yes, I'm 27 and sometimes, I play with toys.

Also, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN WE PLEASE PUT THE SCALE ISSUE TO REST!!?? :x

You are not alone, at least they're fragile expensive toys:)

yeah,, now just get the vehicles out so we can play with them:D

so,were you guys oblivious to the fact that you play with toy soldiers(ok-self-assembled toy soldiers, but toy soldiers anyway), or were you just denying the truth?

I don't have a problem with prepainted. I'm glad they've finally arrived for a wargame, rather than colectible Wiz garbage. I paint when I have to, not for pleasure.

But the tanks are so wee.

The scale is correct.

I've had exactly this problem with some 28mm historicals. I've based my Russian infantry on slottas, so now they tower over the FT-17s I have.

My solution? I'm going to put my tanks on a scenic base. This restores the relative scales.

Also gives bored modellers something to do - scenic bases for vehicles. It's the solution I'll use.

And about the best solution to use.

The scale is not correct. The Challenger 2 should be taller than the infantry, even with a base. It's not. I can see that from the preview pics.

I'm still not sure I agree with you.

Challenger = 2.5 meters tall. Measures to the top of the coax gun, not the top of the turret.
Soldiers of BF:E = 6 ft = 1.82 m
Difference in the height of the two = 0.68m = 2.2 feet

With the difference in the base/tread and the difference at the top it looks fairly close to accurate to me. Going to need better pictures or literal measurements to convince me otherwise. Even with that, it's not that far off to make me "not buy the game"

Even if the scale isn't perfect, the tank does seem noticably bigger than the infantry. Enough so that you could believe that the infantry are normal humans and not ogres or something. I'm rather looking forward to this in all honesty. Probably not something I'll get the month it comes out but maybe a few months down the road I will. Need to get Armageddon, some T'Rakks, Earth-Minbari War, and the Drakh fleet book first(which granted I intend to do all of that except the T'Rakks next week).

I'm thinking I'll wait until they release the main rulebook. I hate working off of PDFs and whatnot. Nothing like having a book right next to you so you can just flip through it. Perhaps get Victory at Sea and it's counters while I wait for Battlefield Evo.

And I like the toys being pre-painted. I HATE painting. I suck at it and have no interest in becoming a better painter. Plus the time I waste painting is time I'm not spending gaming. Not to mention having to buy all the paints, brushes and whatnot. Give me pre-painted figures any day.

I can relate to an extent. I enjoy painting and I feel that I do a pretty good job, but it will be nice to just pick it up and play. :D
