"Tagging" your tanks

BuShips

Cosmic Mongoose
While much more of an occurrence during WW2, Korea and Vietnam, personalizing military vehicles with unofficial "war art" can still be found appearing on the World's armored vehicles and I'm sure will not go out of style anytime soon (or even by 2015). This is my 2nd Abrams that I've decided to add some "personal" message on from the vehicle's crew. This M1A2 is presented as "The Grim Reaper", and is guarding a devastated urban area that a USMC squad has decided to use for cover. By the way, this is a brand new released model of gothic ruins (hey, not every battlefield is going to be in the Middle East, you know!). It is called Gothic City Ruins 1 and is from Pegasus Hobbies, part #4930. It is compatible with previous Gothic ruins kits from Pegasus, but this time the pieces are "battle-damaged" and are much more usable as they have a second level floor that is included. I put one set together last night (you only see 1/2 of it in the photo). I spray primed it, and then touched up a very small area with brown paint. I then washed it with a water-diluted mix of black artists' ink and it was done in one short evening. I'm happry with my ruins, and I'm happy with my tank. All in all, yesterday was a good day, heh.

NIIIIIIIICEEEE

not get some USMC AAVs and paint YAT-YAS on them :D

"you aint tracks- you aint sh*t"

Well, that's the fun of "nose art" (as the WW2 bomber pilots called it), you can come up with some fun stuff. Since you mentioned USMC AAVs, a thought popped into my head based upon and old joke (maybe in WW2, who knows) that used letters to mean words. The thing that popped into my weird sense of humor noggin was "MRDUCKS" followed by "MRNOT!!", which is a dual pun because in WW2 the original amphibious vehicle was the DUKW. Do you remember that one?

One of my favorites was an Australain LAV in Baghdad. On the side it said
"Bought on Ebay!"

And now that I think about it, I remember seeing a picture of a Challenger II with the external fuel tanks painted up to look like IRN-BRU cans... I wanted to do that with one of my Chally's but now I can't find the pic.

That makes a justified reason for Aussies to be in BF:Evo.
Surely as part of the EFTF allied forces :D

I almost hurt myself!

I did see one HMMWV with a picture of 'Ron Burgundy' (Anchorman) on the side stating:

"You stay classy Baghdad!"

Do the Brits have rules against such things on their vees?

not realy, british are quite profesional about it, its seen as a job, and being gung ho is in many cases looked down apon.

nritish sopildiers also refrain from sunglasses unlike the americans as british troops like to keep eye contact with locals and build up trust.

that said ive seen a few chalk marks on tanks and landy, that can be washed of prior to inspection.

my friend got a righ hose down from a incident like that.

all tankers name there tanks by writeing names along the barrell. names i recall were " i pitty the foo!" death and destruction" on bradelys in my platoon were " bloney pony" stincon licoln " " born to kill" i saw a 1st armour div humvee with a boba fett helmet painted on it too!

My fiancee has a pic somewhere of her brother's tank from Desert storm with Kermit the frog straddling the main gun. I'll have to scan it.

Funniest one I ever saw was painted on the side of an MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) in a photo in a "Twilight 2000" gaming supplement from the now defunct GDW, it read:

Pandora's Box

For those that don't know, the MLRS is a tracked vehicle with a huge box full of rockets that can be fired almost all at once, I think they hold 24 or 48 rockets, can't remember for sure, but it is a very fitting tag-line for that vehicle.

i just whatched a documentery on 1st Marine tank battalion, they had two tanks names that stuck with me:

Saddamizer
Dubyas Peace Maker
