The suggested new Beam rules for 2E, which makes hull 4 ships more selectable.
Is this a good thing?
The Arma points breakdown allows for 5PT Raid, 5 Skirm and 10 Patrol.
15 ships in total, is this game gonna get longer to play?
Is this what you want for the game?

I suspect that some Hull 4 ships will have to give some hits or tricks back for the beam update. Specifically, I think this will apply to the good Hull 4 ships that don't primarily mount SAP beam weapons themselves: Olympus, Drakh Mothership, maybe the Darkener (even though it has 2 dice of beam), Corvan, Drakh Scout, Saggitarius, maybe the Tiraca, possibly the Heavy Raider (unlikely very much here).

Covered in an edit to the original post. The Drakh Mothership does too, but it isn't much, and neither is it a wonderfully compelling weapon. I was probably editing while you were replying.

The beam is, alright. It's nothing fantastic. So it might get some kind of tune. I don't know, really.

for one off games sure you could swarm the enemy with 15 hull 4 ships, especially againt minbari.
however what if the minbari bring tigaras? they will have a field day.
same as if you bring the swarm to a tourney - ok you will do well against beam reliant fleets, but the centauri, vree, dilgar, pak etc will all love the easy targets you bring for them.
what the mechanic does is bring more balance to the game by making hull 4 ships more playable than before where you got hit on 2s by SAP beams.

Hull 4 ships generally are not as powerful as the upper end ships are at the moment (think Olympus, Tiraca and Sagittarius in particular) but are significantly more survivable vs beams. The lower end have (hopefully) been pulled up so that they are all viable choices and although better or worse against certain opponents, they should just be another good option to take.
