Stealth & Scout

I am very new to the system. Have played once, a demo; went out and bought the revised edition and SFOS. Was reading the rules and trying to figure out how to counter stealth. I believe the rules state that if a ship with scout ability is within 24" of a ship with stealth it will reduce the stealth score by one if it is scouting. Does this cover more than one ship with stealth or is it directed at just the one ship? Meaning that you would have to have more than one ship with the scout ability to reduce the stealth of more than one ship. Thanks in advance for your responces. Long live the EA. Phil

Buy Armageddon if playing EA or against stealthy races.

It revises extensively the EA fleet list; dividing it up into three and adding some cool new tools (Marathon).

The new stealth rules are important as well.

The short version is that it requires the scout to do an action equivalent to a special action- you may choose to reduce a target ship's stealth by one if you make a crew quality check of 8 or reroll one weapons system on each ship attacking a particular target ship on a crew quality check of a 9.

The new book is definitely worth it for the EA!

Also new fighter rules, very good for thunderbolt swarms attacking light ships!

To answer the question... a scout can only attempt to lower the stealth of one target ship within 24". To lower stealth of multiple ships, you must have multiple scouts. Each target's stealth can only be lowered by 1 by scouts in this way, so even if 3 scouts all do their scouting on the same target, its stealth is still lowered by only 1.

Stealth can also be lowered in other ways... using fighters to do "Scanners to full!", by being Shadows or Vorlons, or by being within 8" (Armageddon only). Each of these methods can only lower stealth by 1, but they do stack with each other. So if you have a scout, a fighter doing STF and you are within 8", then the stealth of that target is reduced by 3.

Another way to 'reduce' stealth is to put your fighters within 1" of the target, fighters ignore stealth when within 1"

EDIT: Thats only when you're playing with the new Armageddon ruleset, but then so is the 8" boundary, the SFOS boundary is different.
