Starting Age

Is there anything published about playing as a kid?

You know, someone with a silver spoon in their mouth, living in their parent's basement, no mortgage, no kids, no bills ... and bored out of his/her/its mind. (A future Gen Y, if you please).

Judges in Judge Dredd start training rather early.

It would make chargen for a convention game rather simple. Just as long as it does not turn into The Goonies or Flight of the Navigator.

But seriously ...

You're all 16 to 18 years old. Your world is gone. Your family, gone. Your life, gone. As you listen to the rumble of the deckplates of the hospital ship bound for supposed safety in the Core, you have to wonder. 'How the hell will we stop the Precursors?'

You have no idea. But you have a fire in you, now. Purpose, desire, and raw ability.

The Galaxy has no idea what is coming.

Spica's Career Book 3 has several pages on family and early life, including some Pre-Enlistment Event Tables.

That sounds cool. I'll check it out. I really like the lifepath chargen of Traveller. Really gives a feeling of groundedness to a PC. And, more important, it makes the players focus on in-game-world rewards instead of increasing on-character-sheet kewl powerz, featz, level-ups, etc.

To me, that makes the players focus on the wrong part of the game, which is the play itself.
