Starbases and campaigns

Anyone use one to good effect? I can see it being a good deterrant if you place it in a particular strategic target - at least I think so. I can also see it costing you an arm and a leg in terms of repair.

The Reinforcements chart in SFoS lists a station as costing x2, while in the 'Space Station' section it's described as costing x3...I have assume x2 is correct?

I've been toying with the idea of scratch-building a Minbari station, but then would need a reason to field one. In terms of cost two Sharlins (or variants) seems like the obvious choice, although being able to absorb 800 damage could be a good deterrent against anyone.

The biggest advantage of a space station is mission/objective control. If you have a station, and they attack the target, you get to choose the mission. In addition you can choose whether or not to use a mission that includes the space station. If you choose not to, then they cannot take the strategic point.

If you do include the station, I believe it does not take up one of your fleet priority points, thus giving you a strong defensive advantage when involving that fight.

True, it may be a pain to repair, but the advantages can be quite rewarding.

Is that right? I thought the presence of a station meant three things:

1.) The PL of a battle could never be modified by either player.

2.) the strategic target can only be taken if the attacking player wins a scenario involving the station (I can see this being the big detterent).

3.) stations must be used in war/battle PLs for Annhiliation, Space Superiority or A Call to Arms. Depending on your opponent, this could be an advantage or a liability. I'd hate to *have* to use a station if I wanted to use a Sharlin instead. Also, SFoS states in all other PLs and scenarios, it's the players choice as to wether or not to use a station.

You're right though, by choosing not to include the station, the attacker can no longer win the target which may prevent the attack from occurring. That's intruiging.

If you're right and the defender can choose the mission, that's huge! I looked in SFoS but couldn't find it though...
