Banded Mongoose
Bought the starter set on sunday and was told some rumours that MGP were going to release ships or rules adaptions for this?
anyone else heard anything?
The rules with the minis are pants and I'm not best happy with buying boosters to get minis ...anyone else in the smae boat?

I have the ACTA 1st ed mod - sould be similar as it used a lot of 2nd ed mechanics - I can email tonight if you want?

i know the mins are a bit bent and mishapen but for the price i was reasonably happy. I have a small fleet somewhere, as does my mate, the rules are simple but good fun for what the game is

well i'm only interested in the 4th-6th movies so if anyone wants to trade for episodes I to III
let me know?
I also have a spare entry set which incs both superstar destroyer and a big rebel mothership

I hate to be a kill joy, but have fun getting Star Destroyers and Tie-Fighters for any kind of reasonable price on the secondary market. They go for silly prices.

You can get the rules on the Mongoose Mods yahoo group.

they do?! hmmm, i sense some cashing in is needed, i'm aelling off most of my games anyway, yay!

Yeah, Star Destroyers go for $20+ US, the Interdictor Star Destroyer goes for $15+. When you can find Tie Fighters they go for somewhere between $1.50 and $3.00 each. Most Episode 1-3 stuff doesn't go for nearly as high, except for Republic Assault Ships, Venator Star Destroyers, and Banking Clan Frigates.

O Rly....

May have to ebay some of the stuff I've got gathering dust at some point....

EDIT: Actually had a look at ebay and they dont seem to be going for THAT much. Frankly fighters for $1.50 - $3.00 is hardly what I'd call 'going for loads' anyway to be honest. $20 for a star destroyer isn't bad though but from what I can see on Ebay and the likes at the moment thing's just arent selling for that much. That said most of the items I saw on there are still bidding... Hmmm.... to sell or not to sell..... on the one hand: Star Wars = Cool and though I rarely use them I actually quite like my little ships. On the other hand money can buy OTHER cool things like beer, and.... more beer.... hmmmm..... :P

These the WotC plastics we're talking about? I've never found them that hard to get hold of and I have a complete set at home... ;)

The game does suck though something awful :o

Yeah, the WoTC ones. Some people did get lucky and get full sets easily. I didn't have a problem collecting a full set (one of each ship), my problem was when I wanted to get nice sized fleets. Certain ships are hard to find at a decent price on the secondary market. Deals can be found, they just aren't common.

Gotta just add though that personally I quite LIKE the game. Alot of folks disliked it because to be honest I suspect they want it to be something it's not trying to be. It's frankly alot more like Chess with spaceships (and dice) than an actual wargame and personally I quite enjoy it whe I do actually get round to playing it but that said I WOULD like to see someone do a more 'proper' star wars wargame (and yes I've read the Mod but frankly whilst fun it's not even SLIGHTLY balanced as an actual proper game and I'm still not convinced ACTA really works for Star Wars fighters (fighters in ACTA still can only really be any serious threat to warships in ACTA in massive numbers, a few fighters will almost invariaby, get swatted).

@TGT -- pm your trade list and I'll see what I have to offer.

I dove into the game when it came out and amassed a multi-hundred piece collection. Yeah, the basic rules are far too basic (a good way to introduce someone to the methods of gaming) but with a few tweaks they become half-decent. (Usually adding in some form of range rules works wonders.)

The ACTA mod is not a bad idea, but yeah, it's a little unbalanced still.

Why is that a gaming group can come up with better working rules than a serious gaming company?

There are seveal good mini producers out in the marketplace should WOTC stock prove unobtainable.

If you are looking for rules sets, there's a couple posted up at the Mongoose Mods Yahoo group under the ACTA file section.

There's several variants there.

Including the in-house variant that the ACTA game designers came up with. However, I have to say I didn't find their research there very well.

I have my own version, the 'Stay On Target' rule set, that has some rules modifications for the setting, including a new Crit chart, a couple of new special orders, and some alteration to weapons fire and dogfighting.

However, some of the other variants have considerably more ships done. I'm still working on that.
