Star fighter tactics

I am a new player to babylon 5 a call to arms, and during the recent games I have experienced we have excluded the use of fighters. I am aware of the basic use of fighter and understand the rules. But is there any tips or tricks that I could possiby exploite primarily with thunderbolts.

Any sugesstions would be greatly appreciated thank you

With fighter heavy fleets in general, make sure you have Carriers and Fleet Carriers in your fleet if possible to provide a good output of fighters and the potential for fighter recovery.

Thunderbolts come with Afterburner's this gives you a big speed boost for a single turn (Move 15") giving them a fire zone of up to 19" with the missiles.

As with any fighter strike, try and attack weak arcs, or attack arcs with juicier targets for the weapons.

Mix in some Starfuries for the dogfight ability to strip off picket fighter screens and escorts.

Hope you don't face the Narn. Energy Mines can make a very big mess of fighters. Launch your fighters when you get in close.

Thank you that does sound promising. Originally I planned to phase out the starfuries but now that you mentioned it I will keep them in the fleet after all.

The EA has a huge fighter advantage and it's far better to make use of it. Against interceptor-heavy fleets like the Abbai and other EA fleets fighters can be used to strip interceptors before your missiles and railguns let fly.

The Starfury is a superior dogfighter and the numbers you can usually field them in will let you scour the skies of most enemy race's fighters in short order.

In third age and crusade fleets, Thunderbolts are very effective for engaging small enemy ships and for supporting attacks on larger ships - the longer range on their missiles means they can attack en masse with a larget volume of ships than most races
