Hi,
I returned to Navwar today to pick up a few more miniatures. Inspired by Kremen I invested in some spotter planes, however these are 1:300 and not the 1:600 size that Kremen had found.
I am concerned about how big they'll be but the base they sit on is about the same size as a counter so it might work.
I checked out Tumbling Dice's web site and they don't seem to do a German Spotter. Does anyone know of anyone that does make a smaller spotter than 1:300? I guess I could buy a Fairy Sea Fox or such and paint it up in German colours but that seems wrong some how.....
Once I get the planes put together I'll post up some pictures along with a ship to give some idea of the scale.
As for the story, well......
The conversation turned to spotter planes and he said that he had a relative who'd served in the Navy during WW2, the same one he'd told me about before who was on Ajax or Achilles early on.
This relative ended up on HMS Fiji and told him that towards the end of the war they made one of the most effective upgrades in it's fighting potential. He was stuck as to what it might be. Turned out the relative meant that they took the spotter plane away and where the hanger was converted into a cinema. Crew morale shot up apparently. Sometimes it's the little things.
Anyhow another great visit to Navwar, great shop.
