Spell list by Rune.

Rurik

One thing that drives me batty is trying to find out what spells are available to what runes when generating characters/npc's.

So I whipped up this list. I may format it in a table with runic benefits when I get the time later but here it is for now.

Spells that require more than one Rune are listed under the Rune that the Runecasting roll is made for with the other rune required in parenthesis. I have included Spirit Bane and Spirit Screen from the Companion.

Very. Good. Topic.

Seriously, I sympathise immensely. This is one of my own dealios, though I'd be lying if I said I'd have set out the core rule magic stuff differently than the way it is. It wouldn't have crossed my mind; alphabetically would've seemed the perfect choice. Hindsight, as we know, is always 20:20.

Something I was pondering was a Sticky thread which we call the Rune Magic Grimoire, or something. We list a bunch of rune spells we come up with, in order of their parent rune(s).

Is that a worthwhile idea, or do you think it's better suited to an established Wiki or a fansite?

Also, Magic of Glorantha did introduce new Runic benefits for attuning the little blighters. That's not in the .pdf I've seen, so it might be saved for a later release. (If not, I'll just post it on the forum.) But that's just a heads up so that if you did incorporate something about the runic benefits, any future variants won't take you complete surprise and screw up your format.

EDIT: The Rune Magic attunement variants were cut for space. So they'll turn up again later. I'll post a couple of examples if anyone is overly curious.

It is a good idea, there is already something of the sort on Mr Qwiki. I actually just posted this same list on the wiki. I posted it here as I figure not everyone uses the wiki.

Very interested in whatever you can show.

I wouldn't necessarily change the spell descriptions from alphabetical order. Then, when you'd need to find speedart, you'd be like "what @&%^$*# Rune is that under". A cross reference by Rune like this just makes life a lot easier generating characters and nps's.

Also want to note a couple points. Dragonewt and Undead have no spells for the asscoiated runes. I know Dragonewts don't use Rune Magic, but it might be nice to have something for those people who integrate the rune, maybe one that allows them to communicate with Dragonewts or some such. Undead could get something necromantic seeming.

I'm also pondering house rules for Spirit Bane. Having a weapon do normal damage when spirits only deal damage bonus no matter what spectral weapon they use seems unbalanced. Even a very powerful spirit is no match for Great Axe with Spirit Bane. I definately would not allow Physical Damage Bonus to be used. Considering giving characters a Spirit Damage Bonus calculated the same way as for a Spirit (POW+CHA) and using that as base damage for any Spirit Bane Enchanted Weapon - just like spirits. Another is to make it variable and have the damage be based on Magnitude. Any thoughts or comments?

Here, or you want me to email/PM you tonight when I get back from work?

Whichever works. If it is of general interest to others on the board here is probably good. If it is too long, full of swears, oe whatever pm me.
