Source of ideas for extending Mongoose RQ

Hi,

I was one of the co-authors of RQ I&II, back in the dark ages {1978}, so I have been playing RQ and related games for a long time. I've written a new system, called Fire and Sword, which the folks over at BRP Central have kindly put up as a free download. It is also released under an open source license, and I encourage Mongoose designers to adapt any rules in it that may be useful for their own projects.

While I do not suggest you switch away from Mongoose RQ if you are satisfied with it, Fire and Sword does covers things that Mongoose RQ does not {and vice versa}. You may want to consider using some rules form F&S.

So, having explained that Fire and Sword may be relevant, that I am not making any money from this, and that therefore this post is not spam, it is time to offer some URLs

Sorry if this offends. Hope you like my current ideas, and find them useful.

Ray,

I was one of the co-authors of RQ I&II, back in the dark ages {1978}, so I have been playing RQ and related games for a long time.
I was already there, striding Glorantha. It seems like yesterdays... Chaosium games have always been somewhat special for me since that time. No one has ever beat them.

I had a glimpse of your game on BRP Central. There are really some neat ideas!

I really like fire and sword! I would really like to get my group to play either f&S or RQ slayers (also a cool free download off the net) after our campaign ends.

I glanced at the doc and quite like some of the ideas one of which I can't quite believe I've never thought of myself. D'oh.

It's clearly Gloranthan and mature. I like the idea that second sight is a skill but don't like the idea that it lets you see the spirit world. This is, and i mean no disrespect, a mistake that MRQ also falls into. A haunting or a nature spirit or a landscape guardian isn't on the spirit plane when it is invisible but it is here in the inner world but just not manifest. MRQ gives *all* theist priests the option to see into (and move about in) the spirit plane an otherworld entirely alien to them.

Please take my criticisms in a comradely manner.

Hi,

There are thousands of decisions like how to write up second sight in a rules set as long as Fire and Sword. A fair number of them are going to be mistakes.

So no, I'm not upset that you have an issue with my writeup of second sight. If you want it investigated and corrected in third edition, though, please report it as a comment on the "Report Bugs Here" post on the blog. When I get around to putting together third edition, I'll look there, but not necessarily on a Mongoose forum, for problems that need to be fixed.

I am currently working on a designers commentary, explaining the what design tradeoffs I made in F&S and why I made them. I'm also at work on on the next iteration of the city of Tishrei, but that is lower priority and will likely be finished after the design commentary. I would expect the design commentary to be complete in a month or so.

Cheers,

Ray,
