Anyone know what ship this is?

The black hull is HMS Warrior, the Navy's first ironclad, commissioned 1860, decommissioned and sold as scrap in 1889, and eventually recognised where she was being used as an oil terminal pier at Milford Haven in 1980, reconditioned and used as a museum exhibit in the Historic Dockyard.

Second from top in that lot's Udaloy- class, top one's got me baffled; doesn't look long enough in the forecastle to be Kirov, too bulky in the superstructure and too well looked after to be Moskva- class, doesn't have the missile tubes for a Slava- it's big and Russian, but what?

The ship in front of Ark Royal isn't Ocean its one of the other two carriers.

Ocean:

Note the Phalanx mounting on the photo above, compare with the Goalkeeper mounting on the ship in front of Ark Royal, plus different island structure.

There my anorak moment for the day...

OK, so it is, but it bloody looks russian, I tell you- which actually leaves me even more baffled; what is it?

Vittorio Veneto helicopter carrying "cruiser". On the surface it might look like a Russia ship - but it does not have enough masts etc.. for a Moskva or something like that. In the end though it is the single 76mm turrets that give it away (and the flag ;) )

I was going to say it was a cruiser, and its also is in Taranto ;)

Gotta love the web. All those pics out there for Navy nuts to go gawking out. Pity Portland no longer has its naval base (mind you got the Olympics as compensation).
