Drakh can't take 5 Ma'Cu, due to the rule about 4 ships of raid or below PL. They can however, take 4 Ma'Cu, a light cruiser, raider and a 2 scouts. But I think the scenarios might not favour that fleet... ambush or blockade run, hah!

I note that the Tourney pack says something like no "normal" scenarios will be used..........................

But I still feel that the Drakh will - usually - hold a numerical superiority in most scenarios... and, as we know, in ACTA, the person with the most ships usually wins!

I agree the Drakh shouldn't get a magical immunity to the 8 ship limit rule, just because their ships are hidden away inside carriers.

Why is the 8 ship limit there in the first place? Most likely to speed games up, rather than to balance games. But we all know that limiting your fleet to 8 reduces the effectiveness considerably, especially if you're a Drazi player. So allowing Drakh to take 24 ships is a little unfair.

At least for previous tournaments Matt has stated that the eight ship limit is to keep games short.

Burger - you have a great point there, why should the Drakh have their hangared ships not counting to this limit? It's not like they don't have plenty of options in the fleet already. Start them taking a few Cruisers, Strike Cruisers, Light Cruisers and Fast Destroyers and we may see some variety in the fleets!

I would like to see Drazi have the limit increased to 10, and Drakh to 12 including carried ships. Just my opinion :)

As Triggy pointed out, the limit was to keep games short - that being the case, the special dispensation that the Drakh receive due to the nature of their fleet should apply to the Drazi - as the stand out "Swarm" fleet in the book... 10 or 12 ships sounds right, but should apply to both fleets!

Actually, I agree with that as well :)

So you take away the game balancing race ability of the Drakh. They have no fighters. As people like to say the Drakh are balanced against other fleets. To off set this why not let the ships with huge hangars carry shadow fighters flights instead of the ships this will in my opinion would off set the universal gripping re the Drakh carried ships. Also this would give them fighters which other races have.

Also if you take away the Drakh Fleet ability of Huge Hangars which is a major thing for the Drakh. Lets start with other fleets. Lets take away the + 1 crew Quality for the ISA / Psi Corp / Vree / Gaim as if people want a "even playing field" lets all have CQ 4 or bump every one to CQ 5.

Personally i think that pure boresight fleets should have 10 ships (Earth Force / Narn / Drazi) along with Drakh with Huge Hangars.

At this level of play (relatively small battles) it is not a game balancer by any means, and Drakh certainly have other tools in their kit.

I can accept that , but isn't a higher crew quality with some fleets "a game breaker" in small tourneys?????

This hasn't got anything to do with the ISA giving your Drakh fleet an absolute kicking last night would it?

(sorry mate, couldn't resist)

It's not a game balancing ability, it's a style of play for the Drakh. There are just as many options for Drakh fleets that are viable that don't involve a single ship with huge hangars.

As you say, there are other fleets (boresight fleets) that are far harder hit by the eight ship limit than the Drakh are. To be honest, only a pure Drazi fleet really suffers and for the sake of the weekend, even they could take just a ship or two as allies to spread the numbers (or even an Eyehawk or two as a scout or a Claweagle or Darkhawk) if they really want to stay "pure".

Every event/tournament has limitations that benefit some fleets and hamper others, it's part of choosing fleets for events rather than your own games at home.

It worth noting that the Drakh retain their huge hangers - its the possible abuse of the same that concerns people. It actually quite a juggling act to have a balanced fleet with only 8 ships at 5 pt battle and this side steps that act as well as unbalancing individual games by having superior numbers of In sinks (although I also grant you they take time to launch and of course are worth VP)

Narn and EA are not pure boresight forces unless you are thinking that to qualify for the same execption to the rules (which is really the issue) they must only have boresight ships.

I feel it comes down to the fact that the fleets are "balanced" using FAP- not numbers of ships. The pre matt ruling meant that the balance was changed by artifically limiting fleets to 8 ships but then having one fleet be an exception to the rule.

Is a 8 ship limited Drakh fleet (including carried ships) weaker than anyone else's fleet - especially since apparently a Scout would be a good idea in some scenarios and of course several fleets do not have access to one at all!?

not a Drakh player but at first glance something like this would seem viable?

1-2pts - Dra'Vas Cruiser - looks like a good ship to me, very like the Sharlin?
3pt -Strike Cruiser with Scout
4 pt - Fast Destroyer and Light Cruiser
5pt - Fast Destroyer and 2 Raiders

There ya go! An 8 ship fleet that has heavy hitters and good mid-range ships. Raiders are a tad weak compared to other Skirmish ships, but at least the option is there...
Now, for Burger's benefit, do you want to put a Drazi fleet up too? 8)

2 pt Stormflacon
3pt Nightfalcon
4 pt Firehawk, Firehawk
5pt Firehawk, Darkhawk, Eyehawk, 1 wing of Star Snakes

3 pt Battle Level Gaim Queen
4pt Brokados (4 Falkosi, 4 Pikatos), Ikorta, Strikehawk
5pt Xill Battle Saucer, Xeel carrier, Xirr Scout,
