Skinnie Armies

OK I can't remember what is the Skinnie army setup? Am I right in thinking you take a leader then you get the options of two different types of units.
Thinking of getting a skinnie amry for friends to use. Like the look of Slaves what do I need to run them... just let it not be the "roman" that models is just wrong in my opinion.

first thing you need is the army book

then you need to choose a type of general

then from here you have access to different types and quantities of units.

I would really suggest a general as your leader if you want a large variety. If you want a cheap leader, a tyrant works.

The way the Skinnies work is a bit odd. Which leader you pick (mostly) determines the PL of your force as well as having a big influence on what sort of models you can get and how many of them you can take. Each has it's own 'sctick' and armies with them tend towards certain units that you can take in unlimited numbers. Other units are available in limited numbers or unavailable depending. There are more choices than two though.

You really should look at the book and figure out which leader you want before buying models. You could wind up with units you can't take or more of a particular unit than you can field. You could go also go the other way. Pick a unit you like and then go for a leader than can get lots of those.

The general is a bit different. He has his own schtick (unlimited guards) but a little broader selection than most and you can pick your PL with him rather than it being predetermined (frex the Lord always makes your force PL 3).
