There have now be 2 posts on the Fan Fic Fourm of adult material (XXX), and I for one think that it should stop. Both have be "Guests" and there also have been bad posts in regular topics. I think that if someone wants to post so bad, they should sign up, so we can rid the possiblity of bad posts being posted. Please, this is a serious matter, and if you have nothing good to say, don't pst it.

Why let guests post? Sometimes they may have some important opinion, but generally its just for spammers and advertisements, if they want to post, let them go thru the 1 minute it takes to make an account  .

This feature should definately be removed.

I'll just add my two cents - no, guests shouldn't be allowed to post.

From all the groups & forums I'm a member of, this invites spamming. That feature should be removed from this forum if it is allowed.

I don't think so, I think that they would have deleted the repley but not the whole topic.

Got news for you guys. Bots do the signing up now. Look through the last 50 pages of the member list. Check out the ones with a WWW listed. 95% of those are Porn or some such. Here's the thing, if a bot can do it, then how exactly block what you are asking it to? Not all bots cret post after signing up, but some do.

Here is one page:
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/memberlist.php?mode=joined&order=ASC&start=4850

Letting a guest be able to post creats an inviting environment for that person. It allows him to interact with people on the boards for a time before deciding if he likes the comunity. Call it a test drive.

Bottom line locking guests out won't stop the porn.

Rikki, that's a good point. Practically speaking though some of the statements that have offended me most have been made under the guise of "guest," and I simply can't think of that many valuable contributions made under the "guest" moniker. If I can grab time in the next couple of days I'll do a search for guest authors and see what they are actually contributing to the site, and bring it back to this thread. If somebody wants to scoop me, feel free, I'm pretty busy right now!

I seems to me the only Guest posts I see are people who are registered but forget to sign in.

I don't think they should remain. I don't think it's hostile to remove guest's posting ability either. I lurk at a lot of forums on the ent, and when I finally feel the urge to post, I sign up.

The easiest way to stop the bots from joining is to activate (or install) the security feature that requires typing in what is in a box. I'm sure we're all familiar with these systems and yes, the do make it much harder for the bots to create accounts and such.

I lurk on many different Forums to learn about the Forums topics, but I personallyfeel it should be a prerequisite to register to post, and on most Forums it is.

Some of the most obnoxious posts on this Forum and some of the most childish arguments have been started and/or promulgated by guests.
Further when you check their profiles or many profiles given are nonsense, so you get no feeling for who or where they are and where they are coming from.

C'mon I hail from "Under the Sofa"?? is one I've seen.

I always have despised people who to chickens**t to say what they feel and accept responsibility for their own actions. Makes me think of those people who wil mutter some snotty comment under their breath so you cannot hear it. If you have something to say "sound off like you got a pair".

For those of you offended by my attitude toward this topic. well that is your priviledge.
My vote is No!! to Guest posting priviledges.

I don't suppose you're ex-military, are you Cuda? :p

I've got no problem with guests posting, to be honest, as the main spam source comes from bots that actually sign up with an account.

I actually have to state I have never seen a spam post by a bot, on this or any other Forum. Doesn't mean they're not out there I just have not seen them.

My own observations are more related to actual human beings who post while hiding behind "Guest".

Oh, and by the bye, I served in the military. Army Active, Army Reserves, then California National Guard. Actually just remembered, I was in the California Cadet Corps in the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh Grades.

I was Field stripping the 1903A3 before I was ten, as a Cadet.

I enjoyed Military life and only got out in 1970 because the army would not guarantee Vietnam as my next tour of duty. Thank God!! I was young and totally Gung Ho.
