Shooting at unit flanks

Mongoose
ok looking at a program i recoded last night on machine guns, made me think how a units position greatly improves it chance to kill and the fire zone thing could be adjusted for a more realistic interpretation.

also we tried it out earlier today by sparaying an area with firepower and recording the shape of the hit, and its elipticle not round, as shots that hit closer are at an extreme closnes due to angle to grouns as are shots that over fly a target.

basicly a fize zone should be egg shape with base of egg being close to shooter and tip of at furthest point away from shooting unit, the center of the rounded area of the egg should be centered on the taget modle, and in effect the circle fire zone covers this very well, but shot that pass the target woulf hit an extreem range (ie the tip of the egg)

so how would you recreat they, how about create a fire corridor (optional - state befor you shoot) that extends from the fire zone away from the shooter, this would allow units to take full advantage of shooting at a unit across its flank (a military tactic) as head on shooting is regarded as less effective.

alternativly, maybe allow shots against a flank to reroll to hit or something ?

just playing with ideas realy, maybe some has alternative and better idea of how to represent the effectivness of machine gun fire on units flanks.

interesting, but this would have forced the use of templates to avoid arguments, and Matt wanted to avoid templates in this game.

Instead, the rules somewhat account for this by requiring the highest rolled damage dice to be allocated to the closest model, rather than allowing players to choose where they are allocated.

It was a very good programme indeed, the guy shooting the mgs etc, i had a days training with him at a airsoft event..
He knows his stuff...!!

So, its always best to rush a mg head on..!!!!!

makes a change to get a good program on normal tv !!!

but it definatly made you think..

was i the only one who thought wouldnt it be cool to put that warthog gun on a tank :D not the best use for it, but imagin it for urban clearance !!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M163_VADS something similar to this then;)
it's a wee bit smaller but it works anyway..

the Gau-8 don't have a 3 mile range does it,, more like 1200-1500m

and the edit i made on my lasyt post
it's a wee bit smaller but it works anyway..

A firezone is not an area being simply saturated with fire. It's an abstract game mechanic that helps you determine what targets a unit can fire on. Troops are just pouring bullets into the firezone, instead they're actually aiming and shooting at targets.
