Shield generators?

For a very sci-fi game, I find traveller in need of quite a few things, including shield generators, grav wells, short range transportation beams, tractor beams, ion beams (or any other system disabling weapon), and...
Well actually thats it for now :D

For grav wells I find a 100dton add on that stops all j-drives in a long distance worth 20MCr works well and doesn't upset the balance of the game. However, I would like to see some other ideas, because most of mine don't work well in play. I thought the shield generators would work differently than armor, by denfending v hits instead of damage (ie a thriple hit blocked by a shield generator with a rating of three).

(Random question: not too long ago I found a great traveller timeline about a jillion pages long... and now I cant find!!! anyone have a link to it :?:
 
Globes aren't really shield generators in the Star Wars sense... you can probably just make some tech that requires power to use and absorbs a certain amount of damage (not energy, that'd be far too complicated) and then cuts out if it exceeds that damage threshold (and can't be reused until repaired).

I had "Shields" in a Traveller variant ages ago. It was simple. I just took the armor calculations as being a "shield generator" instead of coating the hull. Same volume (just all in one place and an easy to add upgrade or removable for other systems) and price. Maximum value equal powerplant I think.

I think I also had an effect equal to one hit removed for each level of powerplant in B2.

I might have used the Meson Screen calculations in B5 at one point too.

Doesn't matter too much, pick something that balances trade offs and run with it :)
