There are some nice ideas in Shadizar for political intrigues, just finishing a book that may provide some useful ideas for adapting to same.
The book is "The Clerkenwell Tales" by Peter Ackroyd and is a mediaeval thriller (NOTE: NOT a Sword and Sorcery tale). It concerns a nun whose prophetic pronouncements are stirring up the populace, meanwhile a series of outrages is being carried out by religious fanatics. In fact the fanatics are being manipulated by a group whose real intent is to overthrow king Richard II. The plot could easily be adapted for Shadizar.
Even if you don't like the story, I'd recommend this for it's great descriptions of life in a crowded, bustling mediaeval city.
