"Second String Hardware/Factions"

Wolfhound

Mongoose
Has any information been released regarding plans for a faction/army that fields a lot of current day foreign export hardware that would still be in the hands of various "resistances" in the Bf Evo future?

For example, just picking an arbitrary name and concept

Confederacion Americana
aka "Los Generalissimos"

Figures would be O.D. green, using older US Hardware (M-16s, not M-4s), bandanas and forage caps, maybe pot helmets.

For hardware they would use export variants sold by other nations, maybe an export Striker II tank, Jeeps with assorted hardware (M2 50 cal, TOW missiles, etc), US Surplus trucks with quad-50 AA mount, F-5 Tiger IIs, M113s, etc. -

Then, they'd have rules for using other commonly available non front line gear from the factions that have already released those models. So if HUMVEEs were released for the US Army faction, they could use them too (but in smaller numbers)

For rare and costly figures for the faction, maybe even get access to Russian Federation/Former Soviet Union export tanks - maybe even the mighty T-90S or T-90E export variants. By today's standards - a frontline tank, but in 15 years, second string at best.

Sounds interesting, I'm sure there would be a lot of third world countries in the near future stuck with U.S. hardware from our present. I'm thinking maybe it should be a U.N. armed forces orginization. Basically it would be made up of smaller countries who want to remain neutral but are caught in the middle of the conflicts between the various major factions.

The M60A3 is a very popular tank with such armies. It's not a Challenger II but by most standards it's a very good tank with the various modernizations.

How about mercenaries? 10 - 15 years from now oil's goin to be scarce. Places like Nigeria, Venezuela, Vietnam and, maybe even Siberia may need to be guarded by Private Security Organizations. Who knows how many are out there now; they'd run the gammut of technology too.

Cheap easy to replace models like tribesmen from 3rd world holes in the wall, more experienced ex-military types and, top o' line stuff i.e.
ex-spetznaz, SAS and D-Boys who for some reason don't serve their country any more and only know how to soldier for a buck.

I think One of the reasons I'm so hyped up about this game; is the incredible variation of stuff that you'll be able to field. It's truely insane. I'm considering using only one or two areas for my troops to be associated with because it would cost too much time and money to do an army properly for all the different terrain that you can game on.

Whew! That's a lot of flappingo'thefingers for me. :0

Time to go

Hmm. Mercs. I hadn't considered that...

...damn you. I'll have to knock up my own "military consultant" list and models. I hate you...

Thanks for the compliment! :) I'm already saving the scratch to buy some Copplestone Jungle Fighters and Assault Troops for my mercs.

Check this out:

In 2010 the US corporation Ameriglobal forced a peace on the residents of Liberia. After supporting the largest tribal faction in the country that they would run the show "under the Company's benevolent Guidance, of course"

They would guarantee the Liberians food, Money, and internal autonomy
in return for allowing Ameriglobal to build factories and, refineries in Liberia. The Liberians would also be first shot at hiring into the Factories and refineries.

Recognizing that the local cultures had to be appeased they hired only affliliated tribes and clans to each location. This also had the side effect of making each tribe try to out do the the others in making the best equipment tools or gas. Within 4 years Liberia was putting out some of the finest tools and Petroleum products on the planet. Their neighbors noticed it too and want the pie for themselves.

Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast attacked the Liberian borders but an OPEC led coalition of militaries (partly funded by Ameriglobal) put Liberia's neighbors back in their place. From this incident their arose the realizatrion that Liberia had a natural resource that could be called upon almost immediately; Manpower!

Obtaining the UN's blessing Ameriglobal hired retired NCO's from around the globe. Americans, Russians, Ukrainians, plus men and women from a lot of other places as the original cadre to train the new Liberian Security Force. The contract was a good one a basic trooper got a food allotment for his family, medical care better than what was currently available a place to stay in a barracks if he wanted it.

Skip to 2021:

After 7 years of training and running some of the smaller things, the locals men and women who had been trained in the US and Europe ( they were born tribesmen, not stupid) decided it was time for them to take what was territorially theirs.

Technically, a coup. The ousting of Ameriglobal by the Liberian people bought a new power into the West African political landscape. and the old business of Men for Hire was remade with the introduction of the Liberian Security Group. A company designed to use the modern corporate setting.
Can't get your Government to help you fend off thugs? Need a hand keep secrets? Hire us. We are certified security professionals Approved for hire by the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and The Holy See of the Vatican.

I could go on and on but I'm going nuts now....

I'll probably use PLA stats for the guys. What do you think of that?

What do you think of that?

I think I need to track you down and shoot you eighteen times. Or buy you a drink. Or buy you a drink, then shoot you eighteen times. Something like that...

Sounds pretty good, actually. At some point in the near future I'll knock up some fluff for a merc group (consisting of ex-British Army soldiers, naturally) hiring themselves out for the fun and games in the Middle East or some such. Watch this space.

I'll take the drink first, maybe two, then you can shoot me

I'll be looking forward to your Brit mercs! I remember reading Col. Mike Hoare's book as a kid wow! what an adventurously crappy time that was. I may have to go find a copy of that one.

Hey Wolfhound thanks for that but i'm not brilliant, I get ideas from news articles like this one from pbs.org:

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/china-darfur_04-25-06.html

They supposedly also have over 1000 troops disguised as oil workers and security personnel at those refineries. I'd wanna protect my investments too. If I remember the website that I found that at I'll put it up here.

the edited part is the link I promised:

http://www.strategypage.com/default.asp

Anyway, I'm thinking of raiding a diamond mine or running down a pack of vicious thieves who hit our paymasters up for a shipment of uranium.

The possibilities are endless, I'm going to work out my first scenario soon. If work doesn't ask too much of me :(

Not a lot of people realise that the second largest contributor of troops in Iraq isn't the British, its mercenaries.

They get called contractors a lot. And because they don't have rules of engagement, do some of the "dirty war" fighting.

I like idea about a mercs idea

I would like French Foreign Legion quite quick

And what about the Russian? I can see quite well a Great Republic of all Russias dealing with MEA in Centrral Asia

Does anyone else envision a SouthEast Asia Defense Force comprised of Japan, Vietnam and South Korea? Possibly to fight off a North Korean army?

Russia I would like as well although I would find it hard to see them as second string.

Other groups I would like to see of the lesser powers would be African forces (or possibly a large OAU force), Armenians, and maybe some kind of organized crime force from around the globe (Russian mob, Jamacan posse, columbian drug lords, etc.) that don't necessarily like each other but work together to keep the revenue pouring in.

Israeli forces would be cool as well.
