Scouts and Dodge

Calistan

Mongoose
Since some ships have dodge, what do people think of a scout being able to redirect the fire from one weapon's system of a ship so that the dodge is raised by one when dodging from that one weapon system.

Example:
The Whitestar has a +4 dodge. If a scout is within range and then it can raise the dodge score against 1 weapon system to +5 dodge, while the rest of the other shots are at +4 from other weapon systems.

Interesting, but, by giving them another option, do we really need to make Scout more powerful? It's already a pretty brutal property.

And why dont you simply want to reroll dice for a weapon system.

Kinda the same effect really, except that you will get number crunchers who decide what is more powerful in exactly whatever situation.

Yes i would do that.

It sort of already does that. If you reroll misses on a White Star, the WS has more hits to dodge and thus you get more hits through, on average.

A quick example, the Chronos' railgun, 6AD AP DD.

Hits a WS on 4+ (hull 5), average 3 hits. Rerolling because of scout for a total of 4.5 hits. WS dodges 2.25 hits. Leaving 2.25 hits.

If the scout reduces dodge to 5+. 3 hits on average, WS dodges 1, leaving 2 hits.

An un-scouted WS would take 1.5 hits on average.

Obviously different weapons would produce different results, but essentially redirecting fire already helps hit ships with dodge.

Basically the only advantage i can see is:

CAF plus doing that, but then its just plain overkill. (Well not really since there is no overkill, but still...)

Uggh dont remind me about explosions. I lost a somewhat battered but still fighting Bin'Tak when the nearby Rongoth went up, shot 10AD at the Bin'Tak, got 2 6-6 crits, suffered 42 damage which put it 6 over, got another 6-3 crit, got 4 dam, then it blew up and 1-6 and 3-6 critted a nearby G'Quan. And gutted a Ka'Toc in the process. 4pt War game over in one shot, sigh.

Try when e-mines could crit, lost 4 ships mostly vorchans to it. That was before i could fire not that i was in range. Best they ever did is stop the splitting of dice although they could left crits at d3 then d6 or something. I thought it nerfed e-mines a little much taking away the chance of crits. They still had to hit and then roll a 6.
