Scale comparison

Mr Evil

Mongoose
ok with all the yelling about scale trowing around i thought id show you this

if i took the pic from above as per the bf evo pics (ran out of cam memory) the vehicle looks evan smaller !

the metal trooper is 1/48 scale while the vehicle is 1/38 scale while the SST trooper is a normal plastic mongoose mini.

look at the diferance the base makes on the mini, it prcticly makes the car look the right scale !!! so a vehicle of the right scale would probably look way to small !!!!

Oh yeah, I've been using 1/43rd scale toy cars for lots of my terrain. The height of most of the cars is just right using 28mm models with standard bases. Furthermore, I've found that the 'chunkiness' of alot of sculpts tends to make them look like they fit perfectly in the car seats while more closely scaled cars seem a bit cramped.

As I've already accumulated alot of 1/48th scale modern armor kits, I'd like to see them against some BF Evo models. Setting my unfinished BTR-70 hull next to my Copplestone and Vor Neo-Soviets, it seems to look pretty good. I'll have to build up one of my M-1s and put some SST figures next to it.

BTW, I bought a bunch of those Maisto Jeepsters. Good choice Mr. Evil. I was planning on making them into Capital Jeeps (I think they called them Bugs in the Mutant Chronicles fluff) for Warzone.

Maisto made alot of concept cars in 1/32nd-1/50th scale range which are perfect for some near future/sci fi settings (as Hollywood has been known to sneak a few of concept cars into their movies).

I picked them up at some toy stores a few years ago for about $2 a peice. Mostly got them a Kaybee Toys.

I don't see as much of the Maisto's lately, but I've seen the same cars sold in a large set for $10 at Toys R Us (under a different name than Maisto). Seen the same cars at Meijers but sold under the Tonka name (however no concept cars). Also seen at Meijers some other manufacturers $2 cars but none of them are the concept cars, but some are some pretty nice police cars.

I've been able to snag up a number of these cars for gaming

Ford Crown Victoria Police Cruiser
Hummer (Military)
Hummer H2
Yellow Cab Taxi Cab
as well as a mix of alot of current production civilian passenger cars and pickup trucks (yep, I'm making my own technicals).

Can't remember off hand the names of the concept cars but I snagged
Jeep Jeepster (got alot of these)
some Pontiac Coupe
some Cadillac concept car
some Jaguar convertible
and a few others

I now even picked up a plastic bus that fits in well with 28mm figures.

Best bet is to visit the toy car section of your department or toy store and bring a 28mm figure along with you. If the car looks good next to the figure, then it's the right size for gaming.

Another thing I've seen recently are a series of 1/43rd scale die-cast classic Batmobiles from different time periods. Great for a game like Superfigs and some of the more futuristic ones look good in just about any sci-fi setting. These generally cost about $6 a car, and I see them alot at Toys R Us.

basicly anything between 1/60 and and 1/40 look good due to discrepancies in modles 1/60 is a little small but the 4x4 get away with it, while the 1/38 scale concept jeep gets away with it as a military vehicle.

as for the range there maistro as said above, and available in the UK via ASDA (wallmart) stores, at 98 p each

apparently in the range is a humvee but i have yet to see one !!!

I've got 6!

Also seen at Walmart last year (don't go in there very often, but was lured when I heard about these) were some HMMVWs with TOW launcher, and open topped version, an uparmored M113, and a Littlebird helicopter, don't know who made them and seemed to be a Wallyworld exclusive. Vehicles were not bad for $5, figures that came with them were trash. Details on the HMMVW were actually a bit sharper as it was made of mostly plastic, however I think they were a bit smaller than the Maisto as well.

I snagged a pair of the Littlebirds.
