S&P47 ACTA Review

Mongoose
There is a great breakdown of the new boxed sets in the new S&P

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/sp47war.pdf

The review of 2d edition is pretty good too.

Just read the S&P. B5 2E is summed up in just one word: WOW!

First The Lost Tales and now this, today is a great B5 day!

Thanks Mongoose

Chris

yep 2nd ed looks pretty good, and the contents list of the fleet bxes was useful too. The centauri fleet contains a primus and a centaurian less than the previous box set and costs the same price! Nice repackaging

And thus the whining starts all ready. :P

The centauri lost two ships from their fleet choices, but many other races had more ships added to their fleet boxes. Before many fleets could not even put together 5 points of raid in a single box, much less a 5 point battle, while others ended up with 5 points of war or more.

I think this is a smart move on mongoose's part, it really helps standardize things, gets out the iconic ships and still gives decent value for the box sets.

You guys can thank me for the second edition. I just bought everything about a year ago so of course there is a new edition. It does look good though.

Yeah? Which box couldn't put 5 points of raid together? It's not moaning when you are looking at stealth price increases, less stuff for the same price is not good for the customer. As for the Centauri box I think I was mistaken anyway and that it is the only one whose contents haven't changed.

Hope they realise they have drakh box set in twice. I don't mind the way they are doing the new box sets. Im quite looking forward to getting 2e. Need it now. At least it's not to far away now.

Remember that the prices on a lot of the singles have increased.

I was wondering why the Hyperion stayed on Raid, I thought it should go down to Skrimish. :(

I'm looking forward to the new Narns :)

I'd like to see a new starter set, rulebook, ship sheets for the ships involved, and 2 small fleets.
say - Third age EA. 1 Omega, 2 Hyperions and 4 Hermes and um,
Centauri. 1 primus, 3 vorchans, balvarin
and acompanying fighters for both.
It's a step up from the old starter set, has some iconic ships, and all players need to step up is the fleet lists, and more models.

Reading throught the article, I begin to fear that as many things change, much will stay the same. Ka'Tan still better than Hyperion but 1 level lower etc. I really hope I'm wrong, but to me it does not sound promising. Shadows and Vorlons now get criticals and need one turn to repair them, kamikaze fighters for Gaim and Dilgar? :? :?:

the ka'tan is at the top and of the skirmish bracket for sure, and maybe the hyperion is towards the lower end of raid, but the hyperions still carries a 4 dice beam. thats the same as a battle level g'quan!
comparign every single ship 1 for 1 you can always find discrepancies.

I will see what 2nd Edition will bring when I get the books, but I have to fully agree with Lone Gunman

thats the point, you haven't seen it, people are assuing for instance that the ka'tan is still the same, and it might not be, people are leaping to conclsuions based on an article, that doesn't actually tell you stats and rules!

Only 2 things that bugger me with 2nd ed:

1) 3rd age nova(but that's easy enough to fix with house rules)
2) what I have heard of the new EA crusade fighter. Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds...Sounded scary!

I am probably one of the biggest skeptics there is, and I think 2nd ed looks really good (as long as a few bugs are fixed... so far I've reported 96 typos and 40 (IMO) balance issues ;) )
