RuneQuest Vs Runescape

I have a couple of young lads that are missing Runescape the net based game. We recently moved to Papua New Guinea and due to extremely internet costs they have had to let go of their regular visits to Runescape.

Not coming from the RPG world I was wondering if any body could shed some light on weather or not these too worlds, Quest and Scape that is, have a similar themes and roots??

Please I relaise they are totally different with respect to one being a net game the other RPG so spare me the obvious ;-)

Not having played Runescape I couldn't say for sure. I checked out the website and it seems that Runescape may have been influenced by RuneQuest some, but probably not a lot.
