I'm new to Mongoose.com
I like Runequest and Howard's world.
I don't like to play it with D20.

A good idea to publish an Hyboria version for RQ?

Welcome there.

It was already discussed in these forum. There was a rumor about an Hyborian adventures book with RQ rules but it will not happen and Conan will stay with D20.
You can read the answer in the Mongoose general discussion (thread State of the Mongoose 2006 - RPGs)

I'm all for a RQ version of Conan even if it's only a one off sourcebook with conversion guideines. Sure we could do a conversion on our own but I think the sorcery section could be a problem as none of the existing RQ magic styles really fit. Have any of you had a stab at converting the sorcery? (or if as it seems this book will not be published could Vincent Darlage give us some idea of how he approached it. I read in another thread that he had already written the book)

I'm also still very keen on Hyborian Empires. I hope this eventually sees the light of day. :?:

Conan magic is very similar to Call of Cthulhu's though in the latter you have more magic points to begin with.
The cost however are nearly the same.
In CoC you can enchant items to stock magic points; it should be very easy to do the same with Conan.

You're welcome.

I'd advise you the latter version of the rules (6.0) as well as the dreamlands sourcebook because there are many ideas to borrow from (as well as spells and monsters).

Hey King - what's your opinion of CoC Dark Ages? I know it's the same rules as the basic Coc but is it worth getting?

Thanks.

I don't have the book, but I read the version when it was still available for free before it was published (on the website of the author). It is very akin to the 1920's setting. I mean that we have the feeling of a historical setting with little fantasy (excepted for the corruption of the old ones). There is a strong emphasize on the church of course.

I think it would be quite difficult to adapt it to the Hyborian Age (but who knows?).

Paradoxically, I would say that "Secrets of Japan" (1990's setting) would be easier a setting for, say, Khitai or a remote far-eastern Hyborian country.

RQ is about the perfect system for this. Instead, I recommend either:

A: It seems the Lankhmar book has black magic rules, which should work well for Conan

B: Get a copy of Stormbringer 5 from Chaosium, which will work for conan pretty much out of the box.

I think the d20 CONAN has enough entrenched fans that it should continue as the default Conan format for future publications, but a conversion guide for MRQ would be great, even if only available as .pdf [or especially if available as a free download]. In fact, I'd like to see .pdf two-way conversion guides for most Mongoose products.
