Mongoose
Hi i'm Ben 28 from UK, im new to the site. Sorry is this has been asked before but theres so many topics it would take a lifetime to check them all.

Basically me and my mates play an old version of runequest think its Avon hill one thats in a box set deluxe edition. We are looking for a fresh start and new approach to runequest as we like this mechanics of it but feel they are a little dated.

with so many version and different books im struggling to find which basic books i need to get going without buying all of them. I cant seem to find a book shop in the UK that just stores them for me to go and have a look at.

Please would someone be so kind to give me some in input or suggestions on the books i need by title/author or send me in a direction of a new RPG i can geek out with.

thanks

Mongoose Legend.

It's all the fun of Basic Roleplaying, same engine as RuneQuest, but without the Glorantha trappings. You can get the book online from Mongoose or from DriveThruRPG, and also buy the print version from Mongoose.

Comes in the form of a trade paperback-sized book, glossy black cover, dense with information within. Setting-free, but there are some RQ and BRP settings out there which can be played with the Legend roleplaying engine with minimal fuss. You could even port another setting such as Harnmaster (or at least the world of Kethira / Lythia / Harn) and run games in that setting with Legend rules and, again, minimal tweaking and fuss.

So. Legend. Nuff said.

As Alex has said, Mongoose's Legend is a reissued version of their Runequest game that was a new iteration of the older version by AH. The Mongoose Runequest (usually abbreviated MRQII) is set in the Gloranthan Second Age and has a slightly different background compared to Third Age AH material.

When the Runequest licence expired Mongoose opted to reissue the material as Legend without any of the Gloranthan material. That makes the ruleset generic and playable in any setting.

The authors of MRQII went on to start The Design Mechanism who now hold the licence for Runequest and have a tie in to the designers of the newest Glorantha material.

If you want to play in Glorantha then you can use Legend with older material including your AH version with the knowledge that some, but very little, needs to be adjusted to fit.

The latest version of Runequest (6) published by DM is found in shops like Leisure Games in London, but Legend mostly seems to be only available sporadically in stores and as a PDF download from Mongoose or sites like DTRPG.
