Rune With No Name

I am thinking of running a game, and perhaps tying the PC's together by the fact that they are all attuned to a rune, but they do not know what rune they are attuned to.

It would be a rune that nobody they know has ever seen before. Perhaps over the course of the campaign they could learn what the rune was.

I'm not sure exactly how to define a rune that has no name. My thought is to have a secret concept behind the rune, that the PCs would have to figure out. But I am still searching for ideas.

Or have the god-learners gotten to me?

Heres an idea, as we all know Grand father Mortal was slain by Humakt thus brining death to the world. Well what Im thinking is that the rune the players are secretly attuned to is linked to Grand Father Mortal and represents what was lost when he was slain.

This could lead into lots of plot ideas including the God Learners wanting to find out why they have this link to the God Plane thus sending lots of mercenaries after them, or send them on missions without the players knowing the true reason why to see how the power within them reacts.

Secondly the WTF would love to see bad things happen to them as the PCs could become quit a thorn in the coming Dragons side, or some lower tiered member would want to tap into that power to make a play against his brothers.

Third Having a rune attuned to a God long dead just screams soul jarring mind warping world shaking hero questing.

I like your ideas, Poe. I'm actually using the Iron Kingdoms setting and not the Glorantha setting, and maybe will have this rune represent what more than one of the gods have lost: Menoth, Dhunia, Cyriss, Thamar, Skyrah, Nyssor, and Morrow.

The Iron Kingdoms also does not have any god learners, but I'm sure there will be interested parties.
