Banded Mongoose
Just found these great bison for those of you still nostalagic for 3rd Age Prax

Got my cutting tools out already! :)

Of course you need more, you always need more minis.

If Mongoose does the DDM thing, I may have to sell my second car to keep up. Or get a second job.

But I would have a mob of RQ minis. :D

I like the duck minis, but the broo are gack (sorry mongoose). I don't understand, some minis they do are brilliant, others are... well, not. They should try and hire permanently the good ones.

Some trolls would be nice, slarge, and dragonewts.

I'd like some human types. Various adventuring sorts with that bronze/iron age look.

Of course there's plenty of historical figures out there, that can work too

The Kayazy Assassins look like they'd make a nice Righteous Army group for all God Learnery types out there.

I've always largely used historics for my RQ PC's they are more suitable to the tone of Glorantha and usually about half the price of 'fantasy' minis.

and god forbid you buy anything resembling a "hero' model for a fantasy game >.<
15 dollars, there you go

I used to use the plastic 1/72 minis for runequest. They were originally put out by Airfix, but now a hundred other companies have released them. They are small and light so they need to be affixed to a penny or cardboard base. These soft plastic minis are very light on the pocket though. You can get whole sets for under 10 bucks. There are whole series of different sets for Romans(Lunars ), Greeks(Sun Dome Templars), Ancient Britons (Orlanth followers) etc. There are also set out there for gladiators, Huns, Persians, Egyptians, Pirates and knights.
It is not too hard to find the non-human stuff; for instance I used regular sized lead mini's for trolls.

I have been using Zvezda's 1/72 (20mm) samurai line in L5r...

$50 got me more than 100 minis.

There are some really nice soft plastic 1/72's out there. They are inexpensive, light to ship (a major part of the expenses, BTW), and easy to de-sprue, assemble and paint. Plus, it's American HO gague railway scale!

Zvezda has a nice ancients line in 1/72. (I got mine through Michigan Toy Soldier Co.) Instructions in Russian and English (and decent translation, at that). $8 per box, with about 15-20 figures per box.

Caesar also makes excellent 1/72's. The nice part of 1/72 is that 1"=5', so I can do plans in CC2 and drop them on the table at figure scale. Or use half-scale (1"=10'). Use a decimal inch yardstick, and it works really nicely.

There is a lack of fantasy races in 1/72 aka 20mm.

At present, Battlelore provides dwarves and goblins (but no duplicates of the core box minis are available). They are considerably more expensive, about $1.15 per mini...

Minor quibble, but HO scale is 1/87, so 1/72 is just a bit big.

I tried to use some of my wargame figs on my dads HO railroad. Looked like a bunch of ogres had invaded.

"Battlelore provides dwarves and goblins"

Wow! I am going to have to look into these; never heard of them before, but they sound interesting.

I tend to use regular figures for players and certain monster for canon fodder I use paper figures. The unspoken word used to have a CD called Paper Wars specifically for Glorantha including trolls ,broos and Scorpion men. Aroin games also make a very nice looking set of ancients paper figure and some include fantasy figures such as a mummy from the Egyptian set and a nice looking Minotaur from the Greek set.
Too bad Atlantic figures went away, I always wanted to buy one of their galleys for a naval battle.

That brings back memories, used to have a galley when I was a kid, wonder where it went? Probably traded it for panzers, building up my Afrika Korps around that time too... :(

I also have used 25mm Wild West Indians as Praxians after seeing them converted/scartchbuilt on this site.

Great source of ideas here

Has anyone got Zvepda ancient fortress? The plastic soldier is selling it for $40 dollars and I think it would be neat to have my players to either try to take it or defend it

Zvezda do have orcs, trolls, and undead.

Has anyone bought any of these, or know how much they are? The sight does not seem to give much information other than the box covers and I cannot speak Russian?

Toy soldier inc sell figures for 9 dollars a box. that seem to be about 42 foot(for Greeks) or 12 horse (mongols). Did not see the fantasy set but he takes e-mails and you can ask.
Dragon models USA is supposed to be main Us distributor but have not really look at their site

Hmm... they did take to heart my request... (I bought a bunch of zvezda minis a little over a year ago... and emailed Zvezda about wanting fantasy 20mm...)

Time to follow through and buy some.
