Reign of Discordia any good?

Mage

Mongoose
I saw this title around, and was wondering if it is worth picking up, and what people think of it. Also, why is it OOP?

There's a few True 20 releases on rpgnow for this.

Have to admit was wondering the same as I have listened to the Atomic Array podcast on this rpg and found it very interesting in its Ancient Rome in Space idea.

I have the Traveller version which includes the Virus adventure in the back, as I said there's a few more pdf adventures on rpgnow which are worth looking at... so don't really know why this isn't more popular.

There have been many many problems cited in these forums about RoD since it came out. I would do a search to find those threads.

I met the author at Spocon 2011 and he took great pride in bragging "it wasn't very hard at all a simple port from my True20 version". The fact he was laughing the entire time like he was happy he got one over on Mongoose turned me off completely.

There are other products for RoD sold on Studio2, but I don't know if they are in actual print or just PDF.

I've looked at my copy I bought when it first came out and, it's been just collecting dust on the shelf ever since.

Hope that maybe helps.

That's good to know. Thought I would check the forums seeing as I saw it cheap on the Mongoose oop sale, but that douche-baggery is quite off putting...

Partly not a good fit for what I want in Traveller, part "meh."

Not enough detail on individual planets, too few ships under 20,000 tons (I'm not really fond of very large ships) and not quite a system that appeals to me.

Personal opinion only; if you like it then run with it.

Just not a fit, badly written, or 'meh'?

I owned a copy. For me, it just wasn't a fit. I kept comparing its elements to Traveller, which isn't really fair from a game-setting point of view. Aliens, for example, are different -- not worse, just different. That shouldn't matter. Ship size doesn't matter, either. I think there were other things that bothered me more, but it's been awhile since I had the book.

And: I wouldn't worry about how easy (or not) it was to convert... I'm sure any author would be positively giddy if his product were easily ported.

I guess I failed to convey how he sounded and what he was meaning...

To be clear his demeanor, tone, style of laugh, words all come together as "yeah, I did a lame job and Mongoose bought it - easy money for little work". Or in other words - laughing *AT* mongoose for being saps at buying it, not that he did a quality job.

For the very short time he was in the room while I was waiting for my session to start he left me feeling like I needed to take another shower.
