I've had a number of conversations about refits before, Personally I don't see them as over powering or bad idea's, but has been pointed out both sides of the coin, should a refit add bonus VPs/EXP for said ship upon it's destruction?

Do you feel there just not worth taking or you should be able to opt to not have that particular refit?

Well just thought I would see what the majority thinks so heres another poll.

I think you should be able to choose the refit you get applied, rather than rolling randomly. Obviously the better ones will cost more XP and the naffer ones would be cheaper. Make it more like a shop than a lottery.

People have said before, that this would ruin divesity: people would always buy the same refits. But I disagree, some players would go for instant rewards (use it or lose it!) whereas others would save up 8 XP for that uber upgrade. You could refit some ships for different tasks too, like making a fast ship for blockade runs and a tough one for ambushes.

This is wear moving to a points system would work better because if you say purchased an upgrade worth 10 points you simply add the 10 points to the cost of the ship.

Althought am still not sure about bumpin up the cost of ships as in a campign you wont always be facing full crewed and repaired ships!

Personally, I would prefer to buy specific refits using points, but that would require a finer points system than FAP. If you wanted to change the refits a ship has mid-game it would cost RP, and then change the cost of the ship by the specified amount. This would then leave crew experience to cover the other duties table.

If your picking and chosing which you have you could say that ship x is sent back to high command to have the refit installed thus out of action for 2 campaign turns this would also limit the number of ships being "upgraded" in 1 go as you would no doubt need a large portion of your fleet to at least hold onto your terriory!

This, other than actually GETTING to play, is a big reason I wish I had people in my local area that played ACTA (Know anyone in San Antonio?). I have a great idea for campaign style of game play but no one to play test it or run it by.... or play it with... I haven't hammered out more detailed rules but it is like 'Axis and Allies meets ACTA'

I dislike this a great deal.

The reason is, some fleets get refits that rule, and some get nothing. The Centauri refit list is great. The Drakh lists absolutely rule. The Shadow Personalities are excellent.

The Dilgar lists absolutely blow.

Until there is a concentrated effort in fixing the refit lists for balance, I wouldn't want to see anything like this show up on a normal pickup tabletop game.

I agree, it is only good for campaigns. Not pickup games or one-offs or tournaments. Yes some fleets have great refits, some have sucky ones. Thats why the great ones would be 6 XP, the rubbish ones would be 1 XP each, so you could get 6 of them for the same cost as 1 great one. Actually I guess in a pickup game you could work it, by giving each side the same number of XP to spend, rather than the same number of refits :)

check out the Sticky: Better Player Locator though I have no idea how uptodate that is.

Give the Vorlons and Shadows Other Duties as well would be nice.

These 2 races are ment to be master manipulators and they get nothing to change the out come of a campaign game like other races. They get a bum deal with other duties.

To add I think each Fleet should have a few "admiral" personalities to round off each fleet. So each fleet can have "specials" like Sheridan, G'Sten and Death Walker.

Sherodans character stats are not representative of the show. he doesn't have the trait "grinning bufoon"

Sheridan should have the 'Cause a stricken ship to instantly blow up just by mentioning escape pods' trait.

Well side from sheriden the others are actually dead and well technically so is he!

A character admiral could only be taken once per campaign as he would be unique.

Where as traits unique to an empire would allow you to get another admiral if old one dies with similar traits.

I would say no 2 admirals may have the exact same combination of traits.

It's not very balanced I mean the admirals section i believe says you can have an admiral with 3 traits yet how many do the 3 characters have? I think sheriden has about 6?

true but how often are they fielded - the "has to be on the Highest ship" which then doubles it has killed them off being used sadly as far as i ahev seen..........

Don't recall seeing any in any torunament or campaign I have played in in 2nd edition............

Personally I still think it should be the highest PL ship OR a ship with the Command Trait - (both still double PL) this still avoids the put them on a Patrol ship problem and makes sense fluff wise as the Ship is a Command ship - where most Admirals should be. :)

Sheriden showed up in a game last campign for us.

He wasn't on the highest PL ship as he is abit well unclear if he should as it states he can only go on certain ships....
