Thought it'd be interesting to see how many people use BF:Evo to fight battles set in the "here and now" and in the Mongoose fictional future.

Taking the MEA as an example, some people have criticised "how come a regional alliance fields rag-tag troops". Personally I dislike the name MEA, thinking no one would use that term.

So rather than using the MEA as a fictional superstate I will use mine to represent say Iraqi insurgents or a near future US invasion of Syria/Iran

So will you/do you play in the "official" background or use the rules to play using today's opponents?

I'd rather play with the Fictional Superstate, because I get enough of the other thing during work hours.

you fight other nations at work? :P

Lol, not unless he's a head of state! Anyways, I like mixing the real world and the fictional world together. Like having the MEA duke it out with USMC in Iraq.

So far I've taken the unrealistic factions at face value and play it as the game it was designed to be. Not to say I won't tweak it for more accuracy in the future.

pppssssstttttt

;)

its a game

i donr consider any back ground i make a list and play a game and have fun.

that said im realy gettin into creating my USMC force, and thats the one force i ddint wish to do at first !!!

I see it as a mix of both - the MEA is kinda like a Middle Eastern version of NATO as best I can tell, so I'm identifying my guys as a national Militia/insurgent force.

Actually I bought the Brits and USMC so I can recreate the 2nd Revolutionary War! I guess that means I'm doing a little of both since the Brits are really the EFTF or something like that.

I'll be using fictional nation-states, but I'm sure I'll twitch a bit when seeing current events on the television and when someone hears me say MEA they will say "what's an MEA?" Great opening conversation to tell them about tabletop gaming I'd venture . I think Mongoose needs to outfit proper uniformed mainline MEA troops and eventually put the current crop into the insurgent-support LAMI status, heh. For additional equipment after the Tunguska is released, I might lean on more of the Russian equipment to fill out the heavier stuff. It just makes sense, and besides I found out something rather interesting the other day. In this article in the Washington Times,

http://www.washingtontimes.com/world/20061120-115904-9135r.htm

it says that "Russia's Muslim population has increased by 40 percent since 1989, to about 25 million. By 2015, Muslims will make up a majority of Russia's conscript army and by 2020 one-fifth of the population."

Now there is a combination of real facts that can support a fictional background . Not only that, but isn't the date of "2015" mentioned as the general time setting in Battlefield Evolution? Hmmmm...

As I understood Matts, and OldBears posts on this subject- that was always the plan.
I think they're just releasing the militia side of the house first, because they'll probably end up forming the backbone of an MEA force.

Though I look at it as an opportunity (yet again): once the SAS are out, and the MEA Regulars, I plan on having the militia led by an SAS group - providing air support and direction, and have them take on their own oppressors!

I don't want to play in the Real World, I already live in the Real World. I go to my FLGS every saturday to escape the Real World. Give me the MEA and EFTF, they are much simpler and understandable than their Real World counterparts.

I'm with Sarge on this. My son and I are playing in a fictitious future conflict.

While we may use them in our future Stargate SG-21 RPG sessions (especially now that jaffa minis are once again available), or use them as part of a homeschool assignment to get a better understanding of something we saw portrayed on the History or Military Channel, I feel it is best to try to seperate the game from real life as much as possible.

Regards,
Larry
