Question on Trade Codes / Comments and Bases

Hi guys,

Long time since I posted.

Got a question for you:

It seems to me that MGT contains a couple of new Trade Codes (Ht, Lt and Ga comes to mind) that didn't exist when my Sector Data was created. This goes for Bases as well... I can't recall having seen a "Pirate-base" code in my old Library Data. I did have a bunch of other codes though that MGT seem to have dropped.

Also Law level and Governemt Codes have changed somewhat from the old definitions. And a whole bunch of codes are just dropped right out the window. (Law Level above 9 for instance).

In my Sector Data I have Trade Codes such as:
C0 and C4... and at the moment I can't recall what they are.

Example: "Errere 0103 B263664-B Z C0 Ni Ri 910 Zh M1 V M4 D"

I can decode the PBG number and the bases and the other stuff not mentioned in MGT but not that C0 Code.

Can someone who has other sets of the game please enlighten me about these C-codes? (I should never sell old games I know...:( )

How do you guys deal with the changes? I recall Extreme Lawlevels (A+) to be quite common in the Imperium, but I could be wrong. What's your best practice when you encounter discrepancies between MGT and older versions?

I just realized my second question would probably open up an old can of worms... (canon and all that ugliness) so please feel free to ignore that one (I'll make up my own mind anyway) and focus on my C0, C1, C4 etc code Question.

I think the C0 code means "Chirper 0" - i.e. 0% of the population are Chirpers. IIRC in areas where you have mixed races you can say "H3" and that'd mean "Hiver 3" or 30% of the population are Hivers, or "D7" which means "Droyne 7" or 70% of the pop are Droyne. Which races are there depends on the sector though.

TBH I don't think it's that commonly used... so it wouldn't be phenomenally obvious. Especially given it's talking about Chirpers, which most people don't give a damn about ;).

Damn pesky Chirpers!

If they weren't so darn fast, I'd kill 'em all. They dun stole three of my best Sligs last month you know... Always gettin' inta things. The 'perium should do somepin about them Chirpers, that's all I'm sayin'.

the new Traveller books don't use the PBG either (at least not yet). But, they do have the expanded atmosphere codes (with a minor tweek at the high end of the table).

To me, the biggest miss by Mongoose was in the use of Temperature. They have you roll it, but don't use it in any of the trade codes.

To me an Agricultural and Garden world must be Temperate.

Also, the trade modifiers for Low Population are not inclusive of the Non-Industrial code. Previously, 'Ni' was for POP 6-, now it is POP 4-6, so the Low Population code (Lo) should be worse on trade than a Ni, but it isn't. To me, a world with only a few hundred or thousand people would have basically no trade, but that's just me.
