Question about Aramis: The Traveller Adventure

Banded Mongoose
Hi guys,

Yesterday I found the old "The Traveller Adventure" to CLasical Traveller while i was browsing in an "used book"-shop in London for a bargain price (£4) - so of course i buy it and I am curious is there much difference between this book and the new Aramis: The Traveller Adventure from Mongoose?

My gaming group has just reached Aramis and i was thinking of buying it, but is the story the same in both books, as I will not get the Mongoose book in time for my next gaming day, even if i order it tonight. So i just want to know, is it much that differ or can i start the campaign with my book and just continue along and transfer to the Mongoose book when i get that (will take 2-3 weeks)?

and of cousre is it worth buying the Aramis book now that i have the other?

It is the same adventure.

Same chapters, same pictures. Exactly the same details.

There are a bunch of new ship deck plans which were misprinted in the book and so released as a pdf on the mongoose website somewhere.

Other than that it is a nice new hardback book of exactly the same adventure as the old classic traveller one. Start and run the adventure from the old book.

Hopefully your players may forgive you for making them run the stupid hunt the trees in the forest and get stuck with the cute pet adventure. If I run that adventure as a Ref I drop the whole section as I disliked it as a player and still dislike it as a GM.

That’s not to say its not worth buying. My copy of the original adventure has been well thumbed over the years and the replacement has also seen some use. The new mongoose hardback is great for going on the shelf though it will come out if I ever run the adventure again with a new group (new to traveller that is as everyone I know that plays has done the adventure twice or more  )

Thank you.

I think that despite a few small bad things in some Mongoose books (mostly confusions on what time it is they are supposed to be written about if it is before or after the Fifth Frontier War, which makes some books get the feeling that they are a copy/paste from the GURPS books), that Mongoose Publishings have more than succeeded in their task to give Traveller a worthy rebirth and I try to support the company by filling my empty shelves with their Traveller line.

So I will buy this book with my next salary to have my own copy of it.

What a pity. To reprint such an amazing classic and then fail to make it even more amazing by fixing the few broken bits and updating it with the 30 years' worth of accumulated additional material (which, admittedly, is fairly little, but so much less of a problem to add it).
