Got it today and I am very happy with it but for one thing. Its a lousy softcover. The use my RPG books get softcovers die. I have always been very impressed with the amount of hardbacks Mongoose releases. A pity this wasn't one of them.

I think it depends on the number of pages. From the books I have, their smaller books tend to be softback, and the ones with more pages tend to be hardback.

I do agree though, RPG books take a fair beating and hardbacks are nice. Personally though, I think they should be spiral bound - that way when you open the book, it stays open at the page you want but maybe that's my programmers instinct coming out there

Ah but Spiral bound will eventauuly have pages becoming ripped at the holes, without adequate reinforcement.

Perhaps, but it also says "practical" But I do agree with lbh in that they are probably not quite as sturdy as a hardback

That would be a cool thing. I try not to fold the spine to keep the page open. I usually have to place something on the book to get it stay on the page I want, unless I am holding it. Not sure spiral is a way to go but it would be cool to have the books stay open on the page.
