Psi-Corps question

Mongoose
Ok, the Psi-corps can take 2 FAPs of EA as allies.

In a 1 point Armageddon game, how many allies can they take?

is it:
a) none, because there is only 1 FAP, being Armageddon,
or
b) it depends on how you split the FAP ie 1 Arma = 8 raid, so you can take 2 raid of EA.

Cheers in advance.

Well according to the rules you could take it all as allies if you like. Same applies to ISA: you could take an ISA fleet consisting of all Pak'Ma'Ra ships, and retain the ISA's +2 initiative.

Since the 1pt Armageddon tournament size was suggested as a workaround for the "bat squad" style all-skirmish fleet that consistently wins, you can house-rule it how you like though. I'd suggest 2 Raid points for Psi Corps, and 1 Raid point for ISA.

Where does it mention this????

You can take 1 FAP (or 2 for Psi Corps) of allies. Since the PL of the battle is Armageddon, you can therefore take 1 (or 2) Armageddon point's worth of allies. That is your entire fleet. There is no initiative penalty for ISA using Pak allies...

The 1pt Armageddon is actually kind of "unsupported" by Mongoose, since it is not possible to generate an Armageddon level scenario using the random PL table, and also not possible to generate 1 or 2 FAPs using the random FAP table. It just happens that playing at 1pt Armageddon makes the games the best, most balanced, most fun, short enough for tournaments and most likely to use iconic ships such as Sharlin, G'Quan, Omega, etc.

Would this kind of game need a ship limit, like the latest Mongoose tourney? I can just imagine what some people might turn up with. 26 twofors would take an age to play, and the record keeping would be a nightmare.

36 twofers in a 1pt Armageddon game would be much less of an advantage than 40 in a 5pt Raid game. For a start, 36 is less than 40. Also the opposing fleet would be stronger (eg. 1 War+1 Battle+2 Raid or 3 Battle+1 Raid+2 Skirmish).

So whilst it would still be a bit of a problem, it's much less of a problem than at 5pt Raid... and it is much less likely to win. 1pt Armageddon encourages balanced fleets, with a good mix of PLs. 5pt Raid encourages small-ship blobs.

Does that mean that I can mix and match between psi-corps ships and EA ships at 1 point armageddon, seeing as the number of allowed allies quotient isn't being broken?

Yes you can take "up to 2 FAP"... including part of 1 FAP.

Have to agree and it actually makes me happy, a rare event lately with some of the rules work arounds.

have to disagree. the wording says you may spend 2 fleet allocation points on EA ships. not 2 parts or part of any, much as the ISA works.
if you have 1 armageddon point you may buy all EA ships for that point or you may buy none.
you cannot say you are splitting it between the corps and EA fleets as its the only FAP available to you.

Oh yeah you're right katadder, it does say 2 points, not "up to 2".

Which means you can either spend 2 FAPs or 0 FAPs on EA allies.

So in 1pt Armageddon... you can't possibly spend 2 points on allies. So you have to spend 0... therefore in 1pt Armageddon you can't have any EA.
